A holistic approach to myopia management in routine practice

The prevalence of myopia worldwide was approximately 33% in 2020, however, it is estimated that by the year 2050, this figure is expected to rise to 50%, impacting nearly five billion individuals across the globe [1]. The highest prevalence of myopia is observed in the East and South-East Asia, where approximately 80 –90% of young adults are affected by myopia. Within this demographic, about 10–20% experience high myopia [2]. The age at which myopia begins is the most influential factor in the rapid progression of common school myopia, regardless of other factors such as family history, ethnicity and near wo rk behaviour.
