Clinical implementation of MRI-only treatment planning (MRTP) for HDR brachytherapy can eliminate the need for CT from the current CT/MRI-based treatment planning process. Removal of CT from the workflow can potentially reduce the error and time associated with image registration and improve the overall planning process. An optimized ‘Pointwise Encoding Time Reduction with Radial Acquisition (PETRA)’ MR sequence has been shown to allow an accurate reconstruction of interstitial catheters, without relying on CT.
