Acknowledging the Trauma of Past Medical Encounters

In this volume of The Journal Cuneo et al report results of a survey of 304 providers exploring the perception of the impact of pediatric medical traumatic stress (PMTS) on the medical care of patients with pediatric-onset chronic illnesses, as well as self-reported competencies regarding prevention, treatment, and counseling, and barriers to effective intervention. Although PMTS is not a new concept, this report expands on prior findings. Importantly, it focuses on chronic disease, whereas many previous reports highlight acute injury or illness.
