Neonatal single-stage surgical management of complicated distal vaginal atresia: Revisiting an appropriate and feasible technique

Distal vaginal obstruction causes accumulation of fluid in the vagina and uterus which is aggravated by stimulation of cervical and uterine glands by estrogen [1]. Although most of the cases present during the adolescent period, they could present in the neonatal period due to stimulation of the endometrial and cervical glands by maternal estrogen [2]. Neonatal complicated hydrometrocolpos (complicated with obstructive uropathy, intestinal obstruction, urinary tract infection or systemic sepsis) could be a serious condition which should be managed promptly or life-threatening complications could occur [3].
