Bi-Daily Radiotherapy Treatment in Recurrent Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Local or locoregional recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after curative high-dose radiotherapy remains a substantial clinical problem. For recurrence cases, salvage surgical resection is always the preferred option. If unviable, re-irradiation is the only radical treatment strategy. The radiation doses are hyperfractionated with a reduced dose per fraction (1.1 –1.5 Gy) given twice daily. This presentation aims to share the rationale behind bi-daily radiation therapy, treatment techniques as well as its clinical consideration.
