Color-Coding System for Labeling Surfaces on a Gross Specimen

AbstractAt present, different surfaces of a resected specimen are inked to mark its orientation. The information is conveyed to the pathologist, so they can report findings relevant to the different margins. Even so, there exists a discrepancy in orientation performed by the surgeon and the pathologist in a certain number of cases. The establishment of a universal color-coding system is thus long overdue, which would aid in drastically reducing the identification errors across pathology laboratories. Herein, we have introduced a color-coding system to mark various surfaces on a gross specimen that could be used universally by surgeons and pathologists. A universally common color-coding system would ensure a universal uniformity in labeling surfaces, thereby avoiding any confusion or misinterpretation in their interpretation during orienting the specimen.
