Invisible women: the absence of adequate menopause education in schools
Context: One third of women in Europe are estimated to be currently peri- or post-menopausal, yet there is an absence of menopause education in school curricula in most countries. Menopause was only added to the Relationship and Sex Education curriculum in England ’s secondary schools in 2020, with just one mention of the menopause in guidance materials. Anecdotally, it is believed the menopause remains a taboo both in schools and in wider society.
