Don ’t Get Sent for Cupcakes

Recently, I attended a session on career tips and leadership development for early and midcareer professionals at an interdisciplinary conference. This session was embedded in an afternoon dedicated to women in academia. Panelists emphasized the importance of carving out a niche for yourself in relation to scholarly activities, volunteering for projects that align with your expertise and special talents, and delivering what you commit to in a timely manner. Panelists also discussed avoiding being assigned grunt work that can be delegated to ancillary staff.
