Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine: It ’s Go Time

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), also called physiatry, has been practiced for centuries. Historically, patients with disabilities were treated with light, thermotherapy, manipulation, massage, instrumentation, movement, and other modalities.1 In ancient China, movement was thought to promote health. Believing in the afterlife, Egyptians crafted devices for mummies. Canes were discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun, confirming that the pharaoh suffered from clubfoot.1
