Limb alignment changes with knee flexion: A study based on CAS data

Frontal alignment of the lower limb is of interest in total knee arthroplasty because it is the main parameter that can be modified during surgery to lower resulting stresses on prosthetic knee by reducing the adduction moment. The mechanical alignment technique for TKA aims to correct the limb deformity to neutral as it is believed to have biomechanical advantages that could improve implants lifespan by reducing the knee adduction moment (generated by the ground reaction force and its lever arm at the knee joint center) and consequently the medial compartment load [1,2].
