Can a community hospital successfully transition to outpatient total knee arthroplasty in unselected patients?

The removal of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from the Inpatient-Only list in 2018 created pressure on community hospitals to develop rapid discharge protocols (RAP) to increase outpatient discharge. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to compare the efficacy, safety and barriers in achieving outpatient discharge between the standard discharge protocol and newly developed RAP in unselected, unilateral TKA patients.
