Woman with thigh pain after motor vehicle collision

Clinical Introduction A 34-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with right thigh pain and swelling after motor vehicle collision. The patient was conscious and mobile, and on physical examination, a right thigh ecchymosis with swelling and tenderness was noted (figure 1). Range of motion of the hip joints was intact.
