Retropharyngeal Left Carotid to Right Subclavian Bypass for Subclavian Steal Syndrome as Salvage Procedure Due to No Ipsilateral Donor Site

Subclavian steal syndrome, although uncommon, can lead to vertebrobasilar insufficiency, upper extremity ischemia, and, even, myocardial ischemia in select patients. The treatment options for symptomatic patients include transthoracic approaches, extra-anatomic cervical bypass, and endovascular intervention. Extra-anatomic bypass has been preferred owing to the lower perioperative morbidity and mortality risk compared with transthoracic procedures and superior patency rates compared with balloon angioplasty with and without stenting.
