Clinical measurement of functional dart thrower's motion in patients with unilateral wrist conditions undergoing nonoperative or postoperative hand therapy

Daily activities rely on coupled motions of the wrist and commonly occur in an obliquely oriented plane. This motion is referred to as functional dart thrower's motion (F-DTM).1-5 F-DTM is a composite movement of radial extension (RE) and ulnar flexion (UF) coupled with forearm rotation and occurs with activities such as drinking from a cup, throwing, and hammering.6 –11 Hand therapists commonly quantify functional impairment and loss of cardinal plane motion using goniometry to establish individualized treatment plans.
