Facilitating direct patient access to safety information about their breast implant: A Patient Access Tool sourced by the Dutch Breast Implant Registry
Breast implants are widely used medical devices with 1 in 30 women (3.3%) carrying them.1 The high prevalence of breast implants explains why lay-media reporting on health risks, often oversimplified and not always scientifically proven, can incite public turmoil, causing significant anxiety among patients. Recently this was demonstrated with the FDA and ANSM public hearings on breast implant-associated anaplastic large-cell lymphoma and Breast Implant Illness, and the media coverage following this.
