Longitudinal association between visual disability and cognitive function among middle-aged and older adults in China
Conclusions Our results suggest that visual disability may be a risk factor of memory decline, but not mental status among middle-aged and elderly adults in China. Future studies are needed to further corroborate the association between visual disability and cognitive decline and to determine whether interventions to preserve good visual function can prevent cognitive decline. Application of mydriasis and eye steering in ultrawide field imaging for detecting peripheral retinal lesions in myopic patients
Conclusions Eye-steering technique and mydriasis could both efficiently improve the sensitivity of detecting peripheral retinal lesions in myopic patients. Lesions of superior and inferior quadrants benefited more from eye-steering technique. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Resolution of outer retinal abnormalities in eyes with vitreomacular traction without macular hole in the OASIS trial
Conclusions ELM disruption, EZ disruption and/or SRF are present in a significant percentage of eyes with VMT without MH. Release of VMT is usually associated with outer retinal recovery and an associated improvement in visual acuity. ELM recovery typically precedes EZ recovery and SRF resolution following VMT release. Prediction model to predict type 1 retinopathy of prematurity using gestational age and birth weight (PW-ROP)
Conclusion The PW-ROP model is a simple model which could predict type 1 ROP with high sensitivity and specificity. Incorporating this model to ROP examination would help identify infants at risk for ROP treatment. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Thiazolidinedione use and retinal fluid in the comparison of age-related macular degeneration treatments trials
Conclusions In this exploratory analysis, patients with diabetes taking thiazolidinediones and treated with bevacizumab or ranibizumab for nAMD had worse baseline mean VA, greater reductions in subretinal and subretinal tissue complex thickness from baseline, and greater proportions with IRF comparing to patients not taking thiazolidinediones. Epimacular brachytherapy for previously treated neovascular age-related macular degeneration: month 36 results of the MERLOT randomised controlled trial
Conclusion EMB does not reduce the number of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections, either within or outside of a trial setting, and is associated with worse BCVA than anti-VEGF monotherapy. Trial registration number NCT01006538. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Quantitative and qualitative assessment of anterior segment optical coherence tomography capture of disease state in childhood anterior uveitis
Conclusion Our findings suggest that OCT-based imaging holds the promise of deeper understanding of disease, improved patient experience and more granular monitoring of activity with resultant improved outcomes, but further work is needed to refine acquisition and analysis protocols. Correlation of ganglion cell complex thinning with baseline deep and superficial macular vessel density in glaucoma
Conclusion Lower baseline superficial pfVD, but not deep pfVD, was associated with faster pfGCC thinning in glaucoma. Moreover, superficial macular VD may help predict central macula thinning in patients with glaucoma. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Faster algorithms to measure visual field using the variational Bayes linear regression model in glaucoma: comparison with SITA-Fast
Conclusion Both VBLR-VF Fast and VBLR-VF Fast+ considerably reduced the test durations. Although there was a marginal difference in the pointwise retinal sensitivities, global indices were almost interchangeable between the VBLR-VF Fast and SITA-Fast. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

High myopia as risk factor for the 10-year incidence of open-angle glaucoma in the Beijing Eye Study
Conclusions In a 10-year follow-up, high myopia was a major risk factor for the development of OAG with a 7.3-fold risk increase as compared with emmetropic eyes. Higher age, IOP, VCDR and thinner CCT were additionally related with an increased OAG incidence. The findings may be of importance to clinical protocols and screening strategies.
