Randomised controlled trial to investigate optimal antithrombotic therapy in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: a study protocol of the OPTIMA-AF trial
This study received approval from the Certified Review Board of Osaka University (a certified research ethics committee by the Japanese Clinical Research Act). The findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Trial registration number Japan Registry of Clinical Trials: jRCTs051190053; Pre-results.

Prevalence of atrial fibrillation in Northern Sri Lanka: a study protocol for a cross-sectional household survey
This study was approved by the Ethics Review Committee of Faculty of Medicine at University of Jaffna. Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants. Findings will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal and presentations at conferences. The findings will enable early treatment for new AF diagnoses and inform interventions to improve community-based management of AF in LMICs.

Bi-atrial versus left atrial ablation for patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease and non-paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (ABLATION): rationale, design and study protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled trial
Introduction Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease (RMVD) and increase the risk of stroke and death. Bi-atrial or left atrial ablation remains controversial for treatment of AF during mitral valve surgery. The study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of bi-atrial ablation with those of left atrial ablation among patients with RMVD and persistent or long-standing persistent AF. Methods and analysis The ABLATION trial (Bi-atrial vs Left Atrial Ablation for Patients with RMVD and Non-paroxysmal AF) is a prospective, multicentre, randomised controlled study. The trial will ran...

Impact of health literacy and its interventions on health outcomes in those with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review protocol
Introduction Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure and death. Health literacy, an aspect that falls within precision health, has been recognised as an important factor. We will be focusing on the impact of these interventions specifically to AF and its health outcomes. Methods and analysis This protocol is informed by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis Protocols. The results will be reported in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses to determine the impacts of health literacy interventions on AF outco...

Atorvastatin and the influence on postoperative atrial fibrillation after surgical aortic valve replacement (STARC) in adults at Odense University Hospital, Denmark: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
Introduction Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common postoperative complication after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and occurs in up to 50% of the patients. Development of postoperative AF (POAF) is associated with a 2–3 fold increased risk of adverse events, including stroke, myocardial infarction and death. Several studies have implied that prophylactic Atorvastatin therapy could prevent POAF in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft. These studies suggest that Atorvastatin has rapid and significant pleiotropic actions that reduce the risk of POAF. However, prophylactic treatment with stati...

Social bias in artificial intelligence algorithms designed to improve cardiovascular risk assessment relative to the Framingham Risk Score: a protocol for a systematic review
This study will employ an equity-lens to identify sources of bias (ie, race/ethnicity, gender and social stratum) in ML algorithms designed to improve CVD risk assessment relative to the FRS. A comprehensive literature search will be completed using MEDLINE, Embase and IEEE to answer the research question: do AI algorithms that are designed for the estimation of CVD risk and that compare performance with the FRS address the sources of bias inherent in the FRS? No study date filters will be imposed on the search, but English language filters will be applied. Studies describing a specific algorithm or ML approach that provid...
