Dual antiplatelet use in the management of COVID-19 associated acute ischemic stroke reocclusion
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 AIS may be associated with a hypercoagulable state which risks malignant reocclusion complicating MT. We found antithrombotic treatment periprocedural cangrelor with or without argatroban transitioned to oral aspirin with ticagrelor to be a viable method for management of these patients.PMID:35549746 | DOI:10.1177/15910199221097484

Endovascular mechanical thrombectomy in a child with COVID-19: Clot analysis reveals a novel pathway in the neuroinflammatory cascade resulting in large-vessel occlusion
Interv Neuroradiol. 2022 Apr 21:15910199221094758. doi: 10.1177/15910199221094758. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLarge-vessel occlusion is rare in children, but its results can be devastating and may lead to recurrent strokes, persistent neurological deficits, and decreased quality of life. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has yielded extrapulmonary effects and multiorgan diseases, many of which are neurological manifestations. There is a paucity of literature in pediatric patients about large-vessel occlusion in the setting of COVID-19 infection. We discuss a nine-year-old child who presented w...

Neutrophil-Lymphocyte ratio is associated with poor clinical outcome after mechanical thrombectomy in stroke in patients with COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: We show elevated NLR in LVO patients with COVID-19 portends significantly worse outcomes and increased mortality regardless of recanalization status. Severe neuro-inflammatory stress response related to COVID-19 may negate the potential benefits of successful thrombectomy.PMID:35404161 | DOI:10.1177/15910199221093896

Successful thrombectomy in a pediatric patient with large vessel occlusion and COVID-19 related multisystem inflammatory syndrome
Interv Neuroradiol. 2022 Feb 15:15910199221080873. doi: 10.1177/15910199221080873. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis is a case report of a child with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) complicated by an acute ischemic stroke with right M1 occlusion and large penumbra who underwent thrombectomy with TICI 3 recanalization. There were no complications and the patient had improvement in the pediatric NIHSS from 16 to 3 in the subsequent days. This is the first known report of successful mechanical thrombectomy performed in a pediatric patient with MIS-C associated with COVID-19.PMID:35167391 | DOI:10.1177/15910199221080873
