Lyndra Therapeutics (Watertown, Mass.) announced that it is developing an ultra-long-acting oral treatment for opioid use disorder. On average, about 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lyndra Therapeutics received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to help find new treatment strategies and formulations of existing medications to address the opioid epidemic. Histogenics to merge with Ocugen
Histogenics (NSDQ:HSGX) said yesterday that it inked a definitive merger agreement with Ocugen through which both companies will combine into a single publicly-traded, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. The combined entity will operate under the Ocugen name, the companies said. As part of the deal, Ocugen’s shareholders will become the majority owners of Histogenics outstanding common stock upon the closure of the merger. Silk Road Medical clears $109m in IPO
Silk Road Medical (NSDQ:SILK) said yesterday that it cleared just more than $109 million in its initial public offering, including a fully subscribed underwriters option. AirXpanders touts study results
AirXpanders (ASX:AXP) said that a retrospective clinical study has concluded that the use of its AeroForm tissue expanders may be associated with reduced infection rates, less medical treatment and lower costs for patients and health systems. The Palo Alto-based company makes the AeroForm tissue expander for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Medtronic touts economic data for HeartWare HVAD
Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) today touted more data on the HeartWare left-ventricular assist device it acquired in 2016, saying economic analyses of prior trials showed its cost effectiveness. The Fridley, Minn.-based medical device giant said one analysis, of data from the Lateral thoracotomy study showed that patients implanted with its HVAD pump incurred lower hospitalization and medical supply costs than patients implanted via sternotomy. Irish medtech startup wins $3M in grants

Federal prosecutors have wrapped up an insider trading case based on alleged tips from a Bank of America consultant on pending corporate transactions, including Abbott‘s (NYSE:ABT) $25 billion acquisition of St. Jude Medical. Medtronic touts new targeted drug delivery study results
Targeted drug delivery and conventional medical management have shown to have a reduction in healthcare use and costs for cancer patients in comparison to conventional medical management alone, according to a new study from Medtronic. The study found that there were significant cost savings to payers and fewer inpatient visits with shorter inpatient stays.
