Instability of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis
This article reviews anatomy and biomechanics of the syndesmosis, the mechanism of pure ligamentous injury and injury associated with ankle fractures, clinical, radiological and arthroscopic diagnosis and surgical treatment.PMID:37449812 | DOI:10.1177/10225536231182349

Distal radius fracture-tactic and approach
Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2023 Jul 3. doi: 10.1007/s00064-023-00818-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: The aim of surgical treatment is fracture healing with restored alignment, rotation, and joint surface. Stable fixation allows for functional postoperative aftercare.INDICATIONS: Displaced intra- and extra-articular fractures which either could not be adequately reduced or in which a secondary displacement is to expected due to instability criteria. The following factors are considered instability criteria: age > 60 years, female, initial dorsal displacement > 20°, dorsal comminution, radial shortening > 5...

Reactive Arthritis Following Coronavirus 2019 Infection in a Pediatric Patient: A Rare Case Report
We report a third case where ReA was found to be a sequela following COVID-19 infection. A 15-year-old right-handed Caucasian girl presented with severe left-wrist pain. She was experiencing fever, rash, and migratory oligoarthritis, and laboratory work-up showed elevated inflammatory markers and a positive COVID-19 IgG antibody test. Imaging revealed inflammatory arthropathy with wrist synovitis. The patient was diagnosed with ReA following COVID-19 infection and was treated surgically by wrist arthroscopic synovectomy after the failure of conservative management. It has been 1 year after her surgery, and she is doing wel...

"You're stuck in the middle here": a qualitative study of GPs' experiences of managing knee pain attributed to a degenerative meniscal tear
CONCLUSIONS: GP beliefs around what constitutes best care for a DMT generally aligned with the evidence base. Nonetheless, there was sometimes tension between these beliefs and the patient's own treatment expectations. The ability to enact their beliefs was hampered by limited access to conservative management options, sometimes leading to early escalation of care.PMID:37344762 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02075-9

Clinical Outcomes of Arthroscopic Ligament-Sparing Dorsal Capsulodesis for Partial Scapholunate Ligament Tear
Conclusion Arthroscopic ligament-sparing dorsal capsular tightening is a safe and effective treatment for partial SLL tears. Dorsal capsular tightening demonstrates good pain relief and patient satisfaction while improving patient-reported outcomes, grip strength, and maintaining ROM. Longer term studies are required to determine the longevity of these results.PMID:37223389 | PMC:PMC10202575 | DOI:10.1055/s-0042-1757441

Position statement: management of rotator cuff tears in adults
Can J Surg. 2023 Apr 21;66(2):E190-E195. doi: 10.1503/cjs.022221. Print 2023 Mar-Apr.ABSTRACTWe sought to compare success and re-tear rates of surgically treated full-thickness tears of the rotator cuff in men and women older than 18 years of age to develop a guideline intended for orthopedic surgeons and other health care providers who assess, counsel and care for these patients. We searched Medline, Embase and Cochrane databases through to Apr. 20, 2021, and included all English-language randomized trials comparing single-row versus double-row fixation via arthroscopic approaches; latissimus dorsi transfer (LDT) versus p...
