Beware the New NIH Appendix Policy and How to Navigate the Changes
Trying to navigate changes in NIH grant application policy can be a daunting task. Moreover, when these policy changes bypass the radar of applicants, the result can be an unwelcome outcome. This was the case most recently for many grant applicants who did not follow the new NIH policy limiting the types of appendix materials allowed for applications with due dates on or after January 25, 2017. NIH Webinars on Peer Review Focus on AREA/R15 & SBIR/STTR – October 16 & 18, 2017
The NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is the portal for receipt and referral of NIH grant applications, and, for the majority of those applications, carries out the peer review process for assessing scientific and technical merit. New NIH Resource for Studies that Randomize Groups or Clusters or that Deliver Interventions to Groups
Experiments, including clinical trials, differ in the methods used to assign participants to study conditions or arms and to deliver interventions. Thanks to the Office of the Office of Disease Prevention, the NIH has a new website that provides resources on research methods related to experiments that randomize groups or clusters or that deliver interventions to groups. The information is relevant for human and animal studies and for basic and applied research. The website includes a calculator to estimate sample size requirements for group- or cluster-randomized trials.
