Cervical artery dissection: A common cause of stroke in young adults
Cervical artery dissection is a common cause of stroke in young adults and can lead to significant disability. Clinicians should be able to recognize the clinical presentation and diagnose this condition to prevent cerebral ischemia and its complications. Consider cervical artery dissection in a young adult with new-onset, unilateral head pain with or without neck pain with antecedent neck trauma, with or without neurologic deficits or risk factors for dissection. Early diagnosis can lead to better outcomes but the overall prognosis is good for young adults with cervical artery dissection.

Assessment of National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD and Stroke (NPCDCS): An observational study in rural Jaipur, Rajasthan
CONCLUSION: The study concludes that the implementation of NPCDCS program activities is not in synch with the health staff awareness level. IEC activities were deficient and no work was done for adoption of behavioural change and healthy lifestyle. Actual cases of hypertension were more while cases of diabetes were less than the reported cases found on cross-check survey.PMID:36387714 | PMC:PMC9648218 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2281_21

A case of ischemic stroke and transient thrombocytopenia in a young female following adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccination: Was the association incidental or causal?
We report a 23-year-old healthy female who developed seizures, altered sensorium, and left hemiparesis, 20 days after receiving the first dose of adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccine "Covishield™." The patient had transient thrombocytopenia. The D-dimer level was 2460 ng/mL. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated occlusion of M2 segment of the middle cerebral artery and cerebral infarction. Platelet factor-4 antibodies level was normal. Treatment with aspirin and antiepileptic drugs resulted in a remarkable recovery. This is the first Indian case report of ischemic stroke and transient thrombocytopenia followi...

Progression of stroke risk in patients aged & lt;65 years diagnosed with atrial fibrillation: a cohort study in general practice
CONCLUSION: People aged <65 years with AF are at higher risk of developing hypertension, heart failure, and diabetes than the general population, so may warrant regular review to identify new occurrence of such risk factors.PMID:37487643 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2022.0568

Transient ischaemic attack: a qualitative study of the long term consequences for patients
Conclusion: Current definitions conceptualise TIA as a transient event however our study suggests that some patients experienced long term consequences as a result of their TIA. These included anxiety and uncertainty in the light of their increased stroke risk. TIA patients need access to detailed, evidence based stroke prevention information from a credible source, and support to help them understand and apply the information over time, if they are to effectively self-manage the long term consequences of TIA and reduce their risk of future stroke.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation.
Abstract Atrial fibrillation is a supraventricular arrhythmia that adversely affects cardiac function and increases the risk of stroke. It is the most common arrhythmia and a major source of morbidity and mortality; its prevalence increases with age. Pulse rate is sensitive, but not specific, for diagnosis, and suspected atrial fibrillation should be confirmed with 12-lead electrocardiography. Because normal electrocardiographic findings do not rule out atrial fibrillation, home monitoring is recommended if there is clinical suspicion of arrhythmia despite normal test results. Treatment is based on decisions made ...

Cerebrovascular Disease
Despite advances in earlier diagnosis and available aggressive treatments for vascular risk factors, stroke remains a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide. Disparities exist in stroke risk, rates of stroke, and treatment. Stroke is a heterogeneous disease with multiple additive risk factors and causes. Primary prevention of stroke focusing on risk factor modification plays an important role in reducing the burden of stroke in an aging population. Secondary prevention of recurrent strokes relies on the workup and a tailored treatment targeted at the mechanisms responsible for the incident stroke or tran...
