Malignant stroke in a ticagrelor non-responder as a complication following aneurysm treatment with the Pipeline Embolization Device ™.
Malignant stroke in a ticagrelor non-responder as a complication following aneurysm treatment with the Pipeline Embolization Device™. Interv Neuroradiol. 2017 Jan 01;:1591019917697473 Authors: Ghamasaee P, Carr K, Johnson J, Grandhi R Abstract The Pipeline Embolization Device™ (PED; Covidien Neurovascular Inc, Irvine, CA, USA) is a flow-diverting stent often used for the endovascular treatment of large or giant, wide-necked intracranial aneurysms of the internal carotid artery. Because of the inherent thrombogenicity of intracranial stents, dual-antiplatelet therapy is initiated after placement, wh...

Acquired intracranial arterial aneurysm and stroke after vessel dissection in a child with coarctation of the aorta.
Authors: Donti A, Spinardi L, Formigari R, Elisabetta Mariucci M, Egidy Assenza G, Pastore Trossello M, Bonvicini M Abstract Vascular events in patients with coarctation of the aorta have been extensively reported and account for the majority of morbidity and mortality in untreated patients. The exact mechanism for this association is not completely understood and may include acquired anomalies or congenital abnormalities of intracranial vessel. Here we report a case of intracranial internal carotid artery dissection with subsequent formation of acquired large carotid aneurysm in a child with severe systemic hypert...

Endovascular intervention of acute ischemic stroke due to occlusion of fetal posterior cerebral artery.
We present two cases of successful endovascular intervention for emergent occlusion of a FPCA, one of which is only the second reported case of a mechanical thrombectomy of a FPCA. We review the embryology of FPCA, the controversy regarding its association with cerebral infarcts, and various approaches used in the treatment of such occlusive lesions. Predictors of intracranial hemorrhage in acute ischemic stroke after endovascular thrombectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with diabetes mellitus were vulnerable to hemorrhagic transformation, whereas those who underwent several attempts of thrombectomy were susceptible to isolated subarachnoid hemorrhage. Both hemorrhage types worsened the functional outcome. Treatment with the stent retriever was significantly associated with postprocedural isolated subarachnoid hemorrhage. SOFIA catheter for direct aspiration of large vessel occlusion stroke: A single-center cohort and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The DA approach for LVOS with the SOFIA catheters is highly effective with an efficacy and safety profile comparable to those found in contemporary thrombectomy trials and observational studies that use other devices or approaches.PMID:33818182 | DOI:10.1177/15910199211005328

A new aspiration device equipped with a hydro-separator for acute ischemic stroke due to challenging soft and stiff clots
CONCLUSIONS: The stiffness of the clots affected the efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy based on the type of device. The Neurostar catheter with hydro-separator resulted in better success rates than a commercially available aspiration catheter and stent retriever in this experimental model.PMID:33951972 | DOI:10.1177/15910199211015060

Mechanical thrombectomy in anterior vs. posterior circulation stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: MT achieves similar rates of recanalization with a similar safety profile in PC-LVO and AC-LVO patients. Patients with PC-LVO are less likely to achieve functional independence after MT. Future studies should identify PC-LVO patients who are likely to achieve favourable functional outcomes.PMID:35549748 | DOI:10.1177/15910199221100796
