The gut-brain connection: Inflammatory bowel disease increases risk of acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: IBD patients develop AIS at a younger age with similar rates of stroke severity to their non-IBD counterparts, but receive higher rates of tissue plasminogen activator administration and decreased rates of mechanical thrombectomy. Our research shows that patients with IBD are at risk for AIS at an earlier age and are more likely to have complications. This underlies a connection between IBD and a hypercoagulable state that could predispose patients to AIS.PMID:37157802 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231170679

Influence of geography, stroke timing, and weather conditions on transport and workflow times: Results from a longitudinal 5-year Canadian provincial registry
CONCLUSION: Geographic factors and stroke timing were associated with EVT workflow times. However, no association with clinical outcomes was seen, suggesting that EVT patients living remote areas of Saskatchewan have similar benefit from EVT compared to urban areas. Rate of periprocedural stroke in diagnostic cerebral angiograms comparing transradial versus transfemoral access
CONCLUSION: In our experience, using transradial access for diagnostic cerebral angiograms was associated with a low but not negligible incidence of periprocedural strokes. Patient anatomy should be evaluated prior to selection of vascular access.
