Low-dose intravenous immunoglobulin for children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia: protocol of a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) is a first-line treatment for children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). However, the cost of IVIg is high. Higher doses of IVIg are associated with a more insupportable financial burden to paediatric patients’ families and may produce more adverse reactions. Whether low-dose IVIg can quickly stop bleeding and induce a durable response in treating children with newly diagnosed ITP is not yet established. Methods and analysis We will extensively search five English databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials...

Effect of cognitive-behavioural therapy on resilience and relapse in adult patients with substance use disorder: a systematic review protocol
Introduction Approximately 0.5 million fatalities per year are attributed to substance use disorder (SUD). SUD is refractory to therapy and has a high relapse rate. Cognitive deficits are also common in patients with SUD. Cognitive–behavioural therapy (CBT) is a promising treatment that may build resilience and reduce relapse among people with SUD. Our planned systematic review aims to clarify the effect of CBT on resilience and the relapse rate in adult patients with SUD compared with treatment as usual or no intervention. Methods and analysis We will search the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Medline, Cochrane, EB...

Efficacy and safety of novel oral anticoagulants for the treatment of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism: protocol for an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
Introduction Novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) have been used in antithrombotic therapy in patients with cancer, and their efficacy and safety have been evaluated in several meta-analyses. Although a large body of findings has accumulated to support the benefit of NOACs for the treatment and prevention of cancer-associated thromboembolism, there is no convincing evidence because of inconsistent results across studies and questionable data quality. Its efficacy and safety remain controversial, especially with regard to the risk of bleeding. Methods and analysis We will search PubMed, Embase and Web of science, Cochrane Lib...

Prognostic significance of KMT2A-PTD in patients with acute myeloid leukaemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion The findings indicated that KMT2A-PTD had an adverse impact on the prognosis of patients with AML in the total population, and the conclusion can also be applied to some subgroups including karyotypically normal AML and old AML patients. KMT2A-PTD may be a promising genetic biomarker in patients with AML in the future. Trial registration number CRD42021227185.

Reporting conflicts of interest in randomised trials of patient blood management interventions in patients requiring major surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Low certainty of the evidence that guides PBM implementation is confounded by evidence of reporting bias, and the effects of declared and undeclared conflicts of interest, favouring PBM on important trial outcomes.

Effect of bortezomib on the treatment of multiple myeloma: a systematic review protocol
This study aims to assess the effects of bortezomib on the overall survival (OS), progression-free survival, overall response rate, time to next treatment, health-related quality of life, compliance, adverse events and treatment-related death in patients with MM. Methods and analysis We have performed a systematic review and meta-analysis and will include both randomised and non-randomised controlled studies where the effect of bortezomib was compared in similar or dissimilar background therapies in each arm. General and adaptive search strategies have been created for the following electronic health databases: Embase, Me...

Autotransfusion in low-resource settings: a scoping review
Conclusions Basic AT is practiced for certain obstetric and trauma indications. However, context-specific studies are needed to determine the technique’s safety and effectiveness. Extent of use is difficult to assess, but our results indicate that basic AT is not a widely established practice in LRS. Future research should address the bottlenecks hampering basic AT availability. New AT devices for use in LRS are described, but their utility and cost-effectiveness remain to be assessed.

Safety and efficacy of intravenous or topical tranexamic acid administration in surgery: a protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
Introduction Tranexamic acid (TXA) has become a widely used antifibrinolytic drug for reducing bleeding in surgery. However, adverse events, such as seizures, pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, limit its application. To date, insufficient attention has been devoted to determining the optimal dosage and administration route of TXA in the field of surgery. Thus, this study uses the network meta-analysis method, relying on its characteristics of combining direct comparison and indirect comparison, to analyse the safety and efficacy of different doses (high, medium, low) of intravenous injection or of topical applica...

Non-erythropoiesis-stimulating agent, non-iron therapies for the management of anaemia: protocol for a scoping review
Introduction Preoperative anaemia is associated with poor postoperative outcomes and is the strongest predictor of allogenic blood transfusion, which contributes further to patient morbidity. Emphasis has been placed on correcting anaemia prior to surgery to mitigate these outcomes. Conflicting evidence exists regarding the benefit of currently recommended interventions. With greater understanding of iron haemostasis and erythropoiesis, novel therapies have been identified. These are at varying stages of development with some demonstrating promising results in patients with chronic kidney disease. It is not known how these...

Risk assessment models for venous thromboembolism in hospitalised adult patients: a systematic review
Conclusion Available data suggest that RAMs have generally weak predictive accuracy for VTE. There is insufficient evidence and too much heterogeneity to recommend the use of any particular RAM. PROSPERO registration number Steve Goodacre, Abdullah Pandor, Katie Sworn, Daniel Horner, Mark Clowes. A systematic review of venous thromboembolism RAMs for hospital inpatients. Deriving literature-based benchmarks for surgical complications in high-income countries: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
This study of secondary data does not require ethics approval. It will be presented internationally and published in the peer-reviewed literature. Results will inform a future quality improvement tool and provide benchmarks of surgical complication rates within HICs. Trial registration International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO). Registration number CRD42016037519.

Use of heparins in patients with cancer: individual participant data meta-analysis of randomised trials study protocol
Introduction Parenteral anticoagulants may improve outcomes in patients with cancer by reducing risk of venous thromboembolic disease and through a direct antitumour effect. Study-level systematic reviews indicate a reduction in venous thromboembolism and provide moderate confidence that a small survival benefit exists. It remains unclear if any patient subgroups experience potential benefits. Methods and analysis First, we will perform a comprehensive systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE and The Cochrane Library, hand search scientific conference abstracts and check clinical trials registries for randomised control trial...

Protocol for updating a systematic review of randomised controlled trials on the prophylactic use of intravenous immunoglobulin for patients undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Discussion This systematic review aims to provide current evidence to justify the use of immunoglobulin prophylaxis in HSCT recipients. We will discuss whether current HSCT guidelines are supported by the current evidence, and whether further trials are needed, given the changing landscape of patients undergoing HSCT and the immunoglobulin manufacturing process. Systematic review registration PROSPERO CRD42015016684.

Measures of vitamin K antagonist control reported in atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolism studies: a systematic review
Conclusions While TTR was often utilised, studies reported ≥2 measures of VKA control only about half of the time and lacked consistency in the types of measures reported. A trend towards studies reporting greater numbers of VKA control measures over time was observed over our review time horizon, particularly, with AF and observational studies.
