Acupuncture for gait disturbance of patients with subacute and chronic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol
Introduction Hemiparetic gait is one of the most common sequelae of a stroke. Acupuncture has shown potential in correcting hemiplegic gait patterns and improving motor function recovery after stroke. However, controversial findings and a lack of supportive evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture for post-stroke hemiplegia. The intelligent gait analysis system provides a new perspective for the study of hemiparetic gait. This systematic review aims to collect relevant studies and critically evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in alleviating gait disturbance of post-stroke hemiplegia based on quantified gai...

Comparative efficacy of different acupuncture therapies on cancer-related insomnia: protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
Introduction Cancer-related insomnia (CRI), as a common complication in cancer survivors, may further lead to depression, anxiety and other symptoms. Acupuncture therapy is a promising therapeutic strategy for CRI. The effectiveness of acupuncture therapy on CRI has been validated by several relevant meta-analyses. Questions remain, however, including which acupuncture regimen is optimal. We aim to conduct the first network meta-analysis to compare different acupuncture therapies, rank their effectiveness and assess which approach could be optimal for treatment of CRI. Methods and analysis A comprehensive search of PubMed...

Comparative efficacy of different types of acupuncture as adjuvant therapy on carotid atherosclerosis: a protocol for systematic review and network meta-analysis
Introduction Carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) is a disease of the aorta caused by lipid metabolism disorders and local inflammation. Acupuncture combined with traditional western medicine (such as aspirin or atorvastatin) for the treatment of CAS has been widely applied in clinical practice, but there is still a lack of supporting evidence for its efficacy and safety on CAS. Therefore, this systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) will summarise the effects of different types of acupuncture treatments on CAS, and a ranking of the therapeutic classes will also be presented, aiming to provide evidence-based medicine fo...

Strengthening the quality of clinical trials of acupuncture: a guideline protocol
Introduction Acupuncture has been accepted in many Western countries and clinical trials have been increasing recently. However, the problems of insufficient and low-quality evidence remain, and substantially hinder the development of acupuncture clinical trials. Effectiveness and safety of manual acupuncture therapy in patients with post-stroke depression: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Acupuncture is widely used on the rehabilitation of stroke survivors, including hemiplegia, constipation, emotional disorders and so on. Although the effectiveness of manual acupuncture therapy on post-stroke depression (PSD) has been confirmed by multiple randomised controlled trials, there were few meta-analyses focused on the connection between different techniques, durations or other detailed operations of manual acupuncture and their effectiveness of improving the depression severity and quality of life for patients with PSD. Methods and analysis A systematic search will be performed on English databases...

Acupuncture for breathlessness in advanced cancer: a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis
Introduction Breathlessness in advanced cancer, a frequent multicomponent and debilitating disorder, severely reduces function and quality of patients’ life. Multiple studies have shown that non-pharmacological therapies can effectively palliate breathlessness in advanced cancer. However, no systematic review has investigated the application of acupuncture, as a non-pharmacological treatment, for breathlessness in advanced cancer. A systematic review will be conducted to summarise evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of acupuncture as a therapeutic option for breathlessness in advanced cancer based on existing...
