Web-based interventions to improve blood pressure control in patients with hypertension: a protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Hypertension is the major cause of cardiovascular disease and mortality in the world. Blood pressure control (BPC) is recognised as a key measure in the management of hypertension. Several studies have been conducted assessing the impact of specific web-based interventions in improving BPC. Our systematic review intends to identify all the available web-based interventions and determine if and which are more effective than usual care in improving BPC. Methods and analysis We will include randomised control trials completed until April 2023 including patients diagnosed with hypertension comparing the effect of...

Pain management in indigenous and tribal peoples: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Effective and culturally safe pain management can facilitate analgesia and improve the quality of life. Individualised, multimodal and multidisciplinary approaches are highly recommended. There exist gaps in the knowledge on pain management, in terms of the assessment and/or treatment, in indigenous peoples and the currently available information is scattered in the literature. A scoping review will provide an overview or evidence map on the variety of approaches used in different cultures, in different parts of the world. Methods and analysis The search strategy comprises three stages. The first stage identi...

Primary care family physicians experiences with clinical integration in qualitative and mixed reviews: a systematic review protocol
The objective of this study is to generate a comprehensive map of FP-perceived factors influencing clinical integration across diseases and patient demographics. Methods and analysis We developed the protocol with the guidance of the Joanna Briggs Institute systematic review methodology framework. An information specialist built search strategies for MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL databases using keywords and MeSH terms iteratively collected from a multidisciplinary team. Two reviewers will work independently throughout the study process, from article selection to data analysis. The identified records will be screened by titl...

Instruments in general practice to identify and to measure (over)burden due to informal care for caring relatives: a scoping review protocol
The objective of this review is to give an overview of instruments to identify and measure (over)burden of caring relatives in German general practice and to describe their characteristics. Methods and analysis We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist in addition to the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer’s Manual to describe the aims and methods of the planned scoping reviews. This protocol has been registered with Open Science Framework (OSF), https://osf.io/9ce2k. Two reviewers will run the search to identify studies in four d...

Impact of remuneration, extrinsic and intrinsic incentives on interprofessional primary care teams: protocol for a rapid scoping review
Introduction Interprofessional teams and funding and payment provider arrangements are key attributes of high-performing primary care. Several Canadian jurisdictions have introduced team-based models with different payment models. Despite these investments, the evidence of impact is mixed. This has raised questions about whether team-based primary care models are being implemented to facilitate team collaboration and effectiveness. Thus, we present a protocol for a rapid scoping review to systematically map, synthesise and summarise the existing literature on the impact of provider remuneration mechanisms and extrinsic and...

Social bias in artificial intelligence algorithms designed to improve cardiovascular risk assessment relative to the Framingham Risk Score: a protocol for a systematic review
This study will employ an equity-lens to identify sources of bias (ie, race/ethnicity, gender and social stratum) in ML algorithms designed to improve CVD risk assessment relative to the FRS. A comprehensive literature search will be completed using MEDLINE, Embase and IEEE to answer the research question: do AI algorithms that are designed for the estimation of CVD risk and that compare performance with the FRS address the sources of bias inherent in the FRS? No study date filters will be imposed on the search, but English language filters will be applied. Studies describing a specific algorithm or ML approach that provid...

Effect of social prescribing link workers on health outcomes and costs for adults in primary care and community settings: a systematic review
Conclusions There is an absence of evidence for social prescribing link workers. Policymakers should note this and support evaluation of current programmes before mainstreaming. PROSPERO registration number CRD42019134737.

How do electronic risk assessment tools affect the communication and understanding of diagnostic uncertainty in the primary care consultation? A systematic review and thematic synthesis
Conclusion eRATs may improve the understanding and communication of risk in the primary care consultation. The themes of ‘Fear’ and ‘Mistrust’ could represent potential challenges with eRATs. Trial registration number CRD219446.

Understanding the implementation of interventions to improve the management of frailty in primary care: a rapid realist review
Conclusion There remain challenges to achieving successful implementation of frailty interventions in primary care. There were a key learning points under each family. First, targeted allocation of resources to address specific needs allows a greater alignment of skill sets and reduces overassessment of frail individuals. Second, earlier patient involvement may also improve intervention implementation and adherence. PROSPERO registration number The published protocol for the review is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019161193).

Protocol of a multiphase study on telemedicine for older adults in primary care
Introduction Telemedicine (TM) has been adopted by many health authorities to limit unnecessary exposure during COVID-19. Prior to the pandemic, TM was associated with improvement of quality of life of older patients, low hospital admissions and nursing home placement, and high overall patients’ satisfaction due to convenience. However, older adults may face challenges to access TM, such as hearing, visual and cognitive decline, and limited access to Internet and devices. Ongoing vaccination campaigns and sanitary measures are keeping the pandemic under control, but new variants threaten public safety. Specific recom...

Subgroup effects of non-surgical and non-pharmacological treatment of patients with hand osteoarthritis: a protocol for an individual patient data meta-analysis
This study aims to identify subgroups of patients with hand OA that benefit most from the different non-surgical and non-pharmacological treatments. Methods and analysis We will conduct an individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis by extracting IPD of eligible published randomised controlled trials (RCTs). A systematic literature search through Embase, Medline and Cochrane was performed on 8 February 2021. The primary outcome will be hand pain, and our secondary outcomes are objective and subjective hand physical functions. Subgroups include age, sex, body mass index, hypermobility and other comorbidities, pain medicati...

Everyday lives of middle-aged persons living with multimorbidity: protocol of a mixed-methods systematic review
Introduction Multimorbidity is the simultaneous occurrence of several (chronic) diseases. Persons living with multimorbidity not only have complex care needs, but the burden of care often has a negative impact on their family lives, leisure time and professional activities. The aim of this project is to systematically review the literature to assess how multimorbidity affects the everyday lives of middle-aged persons, and to find out what abilities and resources help in the development of coping strategies to overcome the challenges of living with it. Methods and analysis We will systematically search for studies reportin...
