Study protocol for a pilot randomised controlled trial evaluating the feasibility and effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions to recover functionality after a transient ischaemic attack or a minor stroke: the 'Back to Normal trial
This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Local Health Unit of Matosinhos (Ref. 75/CES/JAS). Written informed consent will be required from all the participants; data protection and confidentiality will be also ensured. The findings of this project are expected to be submitted for publication in scientific articles, and the main results will be presented at relevant scientific meetings. Association between seropositivity for toxocariasis and cognitive functioning in older adults: an analysis of cross-sectional data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2011-2014
Conclusions In our study, seropositive toxocariasis was independently and significantly associated with worse working memory, sustained attention, processing speed and global cognition in older adults. If this association is causal, public health measures to prevent human toxocariasis might help protect older adults’ cognitive function.

Association between recovery/occurrence of metabolic syndrome and rapid estimated glomerular filtration rate decline in middle-aged and older populations: evidence from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study
Conclusions Over the 4-year follow-up period, we found that MetS recovery was associated with a reduced risk of rapid eGFR decline in middle-aged and older adults, while MetS occurrence was not related to rapid eGFR decline. Recovery from MetS appeared to protect against a rapid decline in eGFR.

Effects of chronic disease diagnoses on alcohol consumption among elderly individuals: longitudinal evidence from China
Conclusion While CDDs reduced alcohol consumption among elderly Chinese individuals, they failed to stop all heavy drinkers from excessive drinking. Relevant policies and measures are thus needed to urge heavy drinking patients to quit excessive drinking.

Development and internal validation of a multivariable prediction model for 6-year risk of stroke: a cohort study in middle-aged and elderly Chinese population
Conclusion Our nomogram could be convenient, easy to use and effective prognoses for predicting 6-year risk of stroke in middle-aged and elderly Chinese population.
