Diffusion weighted imaging and time in acute ischemic stroke, is there any relation?
Conclusion There is no correlation in our findings between the time of stroke symptom onset and the DWI-ASPECT score during the first 6hours from stroke onset.

Can MRI quantification help evaluate stroke age?
Conclusions The quantification of MRI signal may be a helpful tool for stroke dating but cannot outperform the visual estimation of stroke lesion age.

Magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of ischemic stroke in an Afro-Caribbean population: A 1-year prospective MRI study on 534  consecutive patients
Conclusion Our prospective, consecutive, ischemic stroke series gives a comprehensive description of ischemic stroke imaging patterns and etiologic distributions in an Afro-Caribbean population with high socio-economic status. Our patients’ stroke characteristics are close to those of European-descent populations.

Transfer of stroke patients impairs eligibility for endovascular stroke treatment
Conclusions EST should be provided directly whenever possible as one in four transferred stroke patients becomes ineligible for EST during transfer. If direct transfer is not possible, indication for EST should be re-assessed after transfer.

Variability of Stroke Patients Meeting Endovascular Stroke Trial Criteria in a Non-Clinical Trial Setting
Conclusions The proportion of patients with acute stroke and large vessel occlusion presenting within eight hours that would meet radiological criteria for endovascular stroke trials varies considerably (62-100%) in a cohort outside of clinical trials from an academic comprehensive stroke center. Thus, the radiological criteria used for candidate selection in daily practice will greatly influence the proportion of patients treated with endovascular therapy.

MRI characteristics of carotid bulb atypical fibromuscular dysplasia in black stroke patients
Conclusions aFMD generates a particular MRI pattern in our four patients, which could increase the diagnosis accuracy. Carotid bulb lesion in black stroke patients should suggest aFMD and MRI analysis may contribute to rule out differential diagnoses.

Carotid Webs and Ischemic Stroke: Experiences in a Comprehensive Stroke Center
ConclusionsWe provide one of the largest sample sizes of webs gathered in a single study. Given its association with ischemic stroke, carotid webs should be assessed for in all patients presenting with ischemic stroke, especially younger African Americans.

Heparin during endovascular stroke treatment seems safe Heparin during endovascular stroke treatment does not ameliorate clinical outcome and is associated with lower chance of reperfusion
Conclusions: heparin use during mechanical thrombectomy for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke in a realworld setting is safe.

ASPECTS is a predictor of favorable CT perfusion in acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion ASPECT score may be used as a tool to predict a favorable CTP. Larger studies are needed to confirm our findings.

MR screening of candidates for thrombolysis: How to identify stroke mimics?
Publication date: December 2014 Source:Journal of Neuroradiology, Volume 41, Issue 5 Author(s): F. Danière , M. Edjlali-Goujon , C. Mellerio , G. Turc , O. Naggara , L. Tselikas , W. Ben Hassen , M. Tisserand , C. Lamy , R. Souillard-Scemama , S. Flais , J.F. Meder , C. Oppenheim Stroke mimics account for up to a third of suspected strokes. The main causes are epileptic deficit, migraine aura, hypoglycemia, and functional disorders. Accurate recognition of stroke mimics is important for adequate identification of candidates for thrombolysis. This decreases the number of unnecessary treatments and invasive vascular inves...

Pharmacological recanalization therapy in acute ischemic stroke – Evolution, current state and perspectives of intravenous and intra-arterial thrombolysis
Publication date: Available online 31 January 2015 Source:Journal of Neuroradiology Author(s): Martin Hlavica , Michael Diepers , Carlos Garcia-Esperon , Benjamin Victor Ineichen , Krassen Nedeltchev , Timo Kahles , Luca Remonda Stroke ranges third in mortality in industrialized nations and is the leading cause of disability in older people. Ischemic stroke following thrombotic or embolic vessel occlusion accounts for more than 80% of cerebrovascular events. Immediate restoration of cerebral blood flow is crucial in order to salvage brain tissue. Experimental thrombolytic treatment was introduced into the clinical settin...

Comparison of susceptibility-weighted and perfusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in the detection of penumbra in acute ischemic stroke
Conclusions DWI-SWI mismatch is a good marker for evaluating ischemic penumbra in stroke patients with cerebral infarction. SWI can detect thrombus in the affected vessels, and may be useful for guiding intra-arterial thrombolytic therapy.
