Use of TIMI Risk Index as a Simple and Valuable Prognostic Tool in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Who Underwent Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicated that Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction Risk Index value is an independent predictor of clinical outcomes such as death and heart failure but not subsequent myocardial infarction in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients. The use of Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction Risk Index can be considered in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention as it is an easily applicable and important indicator of prognosis.PMID:35450843 | DOI:10.5543/tkda.2022.21143

Carotid endarterectomy versus stenting: Where do we stand today?.
Abstract Carotid artery stenosis is the major cause of the stroke associated with ischemic origin and carries increased mortality and morbidity. Since carotid artery endarterectomy (CEA) was first performed in 1950, in conjunction with the advanced technology and increased experience under the guidance of randomized controlled trials, balloon angioplasty and carotid artery stenting, which have similar mortality and morbidity, have become comparable with CEA. Determining the optimal treatment option for each patient is the most important issue in carotid artery stenosis. Today, there have been improvements in techn...

Assessment of left ventricular systolic and diastolic function with conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography imaging techniques in patients administered tyrosine kinase inhibitor.
Conclusion: Tyrosine-kinase inhibitors therapy can be administered safely to patients without predisposing factors for cardiotoxicity in short treatment intervals, and low molecular TKIs may cause subtle or clinically significant cardiotoxicity following the treatment period even in patients without predisposing factors for cardiotoxicity, so clinicians should consider this possibility. Prominent features of management strategies in acute coronary syndromes with the new oral antiplatelet agents.
Abstract The novel oral P2Y12 inhibitors (prasugrel and ticagrelor) have been incorporated into the recently updated acute coronary syndrome (ACS) guidelines, as an adjunct antiplatelet treatment to aspirin. The studies involving the use of new oral antiplatelet agents that are more potent, predictable and faster platelet inhibitors than clopidogrel have demonstrated superiority with respect to the primary composite endpoint (cardiovascular death, non-lethal myocardial infarction, stroke) for both prasugrel and ticagrelor compared to clopidogrel. The subgroup analysis of the relevant studies showed that these new ...

Doppler ultrasonography in lower extremity peripheral arterial disease.
Abstract Systemic atherosclerosis is a condition which progresses with age, decreases quality of life, and life expectancy. Lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common manifestation of systemic atherosclerosis in the elderly. These individuals have a 2 to 4 fold higher risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. In addition, systemic atherosclerosis causes overall functional disability including restricted lower extremity movements. When used alone for diagnostic purposes, claudication is an unreliable sign of PAD in all age groups especially the elderly. Moreover, claudication is difficult to def...

Intracranial hemorrhage due to pulmonary thromboembolism in heparin therapy and therapeutic management of patients hospitalized with massive pulmonary embolism after discharge.
Abstract A patient with a history of intracranial hemorrhage who was hospitalized due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) was presented. A 59-year-old female patient had an intracranial hemorrhage while under anticoagulant therapy due to PTE after a knee operation. Therefore, the anticoagulant therapy was discontinued. Forty-seven days after the cessation of the anticoagulant treatment, the patient was admitted to the emergency department with a complaint of acute dyspnea and presyncope. Transthoracic echocardiography showed signs of right ventricular overload. Contrast-enhanced thorax computed tomography s...

Comparison of early and late clinical outcomes in patients >= 80 versus
Conclusion: Age is an independent predictor of mortality after p-PCI for STEMI. Although it seems to improve early outcomes, the efficacy of p-PCI at long-term follow-up is limited in elderly patients. PMID: 23760119 [PubMed - in process]

A simple angiographic index to predict adverse clinical outcome associated with acute myocardial infarction.
Conclusion: A simple index derived from coronary angiography at the time of primary percutaneous coronary intervention can predict LV systolic function loss and adverse clinical outcome in patients with acute anterior MI. PMID: 24899474 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
