Public health campaigns and their effect on stroke knowledge in a high-risk urban population: A five-year study.
Conclusion Stroke literacy has remained stable in this selected high-risk population despite large investments in public campaigns over recent years. However, the baseline remains high over the study period. Evaluation of previous campaigns and development of targeted advertisements using more commonly used media sources offer opportunities to enhance education. Predictive value of ankle-brachial index for long-term events of ischemic stroke in hemodialysis patients.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that ankle-brachial index is an impressive predictor of future ischemic stroke among hemodialysis patients. PMID: 32611282 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of a health promotion program on medication adherence to antiplatelet therapy among ischemic stroke patients in Hainan Province, China.
In conclusion, the health promotion program, based on a train-the-trainer approach, showed positive effects on awareness of and adherence to antiplatelet therapy, which has the potential to be scaled up to other resource-limited areas. PMID: 27580820 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association between serum uric acid and carotid disease in patients with atherosclerotic acute ischemic stroke.
Conclusion Our study supports the hypotheses that serum uric acid levels have different roles in the case of ischemic stroke. Its effects on the vascular wall contribute to the development of atherosclerosis and carotid disease. PMID: 30205779 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Evaluation on the compliance with secondary prevention and influence factors of ischemic stroke in Hainan province, China.
In conclusion, the importance of antiplatelet therapy should not be ignored any more. Besides, health education will raise patients' attention to ischemic stroke. PMID: 23929417 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Serum sortilin as a predictor of stroke in patients with intermediate carotid artery stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum sortilin level is increased in the presence of symptomatic intermediate CAS and may have clinical value in the management of patients with carotid artery disease.PMID:35403511 | DOI:10.1177/17085381211067051

Compliance and echographic carotid plaque evolution in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with atorvastatin according to usual care.
In conclusion, an irregular compliance has been seen in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with atorvastatin according to usual care. Nearly one-third of our patients stopped the treatment before the course of a year. The effect on lipids and its pleiotropic effect on atheromatous carotid artery disease might support the long-term use of atorvastatin, regardless of the dose, in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The association between platelet/lymphocyte ratio, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, and carotid artery stenosis and stroke following carotid endarterectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective study suggests that platelet/lymphocyte ratio in the blood which was taken preoperatively could be considered as an additional, easy, and inexpensive method to predict a possible higher incidence of postoperative stroke after carotid endarterectomy. Evaluation of the association between the internal carotid artery and vertebral artery tortuosity and acute ischemic stroke using tortuosity index
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that tortuosity of extracranial portions of the internal carotid and vertebral artery could be an independent imaging predictor of acute ischemic stroke in anterior and posterior circulation territories, respectively.PMID:36395481 | DOI:10.1177/17085381221140163

Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism with rivaroxaban compared with warfarin in Chinese patients with atrial fibrillation.
In conclusion, oral administration of rivaroxaban reduced the risk of stroke or systemic embolism without significantly increasing the safety concern. PMID: 23929423 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The correlation of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio with the severity of stenosis and stroke in patients with carotid arterial disease.
CONCLUSIONS: Increased platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio could be a simple and practical marker of the clinical course in patients with carotid arterial stenosis. PMID: 27770030 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Acute ischemic stroke: The role of emergency carotid endarterectomy in isolated extracranial internal carotid artery occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: Emergency CEA in isolated eICA occlusion has proved to be a safe and effective treatment option in selected patients. CT perfusion, imaging the ischemic penumbra and quantifying the tissue suitable for reperfusion, offers a valid support in the diagnostic-therapeutic workup. Indeed, we can infer that the area of the ischemic penumbra is directly proportional to the margin of clinical improvement after revascularization, supposing that the appropriate intervention timing is respect.PMID:37594376 | DOI:10.1177/17085381231192712
