Clinical Course of Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation After Cardiac Surgery and Long-Term Outcome
CONCLUSIONS: A more complicated POAF course is associated with increased long-term risk for heart failure hospitalization, but not for all-cause mortality or thromboembolic complications.PMID:35430224 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.03.062

Transapical Ventricular Remodeling for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with Systolic Cavity Obliteration
CONCLUSIONS: Transapical myectomy to enlarge LV cavity volume can be performed safely with good early survival and functional results. This procedure is an important alternative to cardiac transplantation for HCM patients with systolic cavity obliteration and progressive heart failure.PMID:35339438 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.02.073

Five-year Outcomes of the COMMENCE Trial Investigating Aortic Valve Replacement with RESILIA Tissue
CONCLUSIONS: The safety and hemodynamic performance of this aortic bioprosthesis with RESILIA tissue through 5 years are encouraging, with clinically stable hemodynamics, minimal regurgitation, and no evidence of structural valve deterioration.PMID:35065065 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.12.058

Outcomes of Surgical Bioprosthetic Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients ≤65 and & gt;65 Years of Age
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this analysis demonstrate satisfactory safety, hemodynamic performance, and durability of the Avalus bioprosthesis through 5-year follow-up in patients ≤65 and >65 years of age.PMID:35065064 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.12.057

Minimally Invasive versus Full Sternotomy for Isolated Aortic Valve Replacement in Low-risk Patients
CONCLUSIONS: For patients at low risk for isolated surgery, MI and FS approaches were associated with similar in-hospital and 1-year outcomes.PMID:34958771 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.11.048

Smart Drain for Post Cardiac Surgery Left Ventricular Volumes Evaluated in Large Animal Models
CONCLUSIONS: Admittance measured from chest tubes can detect changes in left ventricular end-systolic, end-diastolic, and stroke volumes, and may therefore have diagnostic value for unexplained hypotension.PMID:34890574 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.10.044

Cardiac Operations after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac operations after TAVR are increasing and interval between TAVR and operation decreasing. Most cardiac operations are complex, high-risk reoperations and isolated AVR rare. These findings should be considered when TAVR is selected for low-intermediate risk patients, particularly with multiple cardiac pathologies not addressed by TAVR.PMID:34800488 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.10.022

Robotic Aortic Valve Replacement: First 50 Cases
CONCLUSIONS: RAVR appears to have procedural safety and short-term outcomes to rival alternatives. Incremental experience may facilitate the safe performance of concomitant procedures as deemed necessary.PMID:34560044 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.08.036

Early Discharge After Minimally Invasive Aortic and Mitral Valve Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: In well-selected patients, early discharge after minimally invasive valve surgery was associated with lower costs but comparable postoperative outcomes. About one fifth of patients who remain in the hospital beyond postoperative day 3 may be candidates for earlier discharge.PMID:34419437 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.07.047

Left Ventricle Mass Regression after Surgical or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Veterans
CONCLUSIONS: SAVR patients were more likely to have LVMR and had a greater magnitude of LVMR than TAVR patients. LVMR was associated with better survival in SAVR patients, but not in TAVR patients.PMID:34416227 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.07.039
