Long-term Outcomes of Concomitant Surgical Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation during cardiac surgery is safe, does not increase the rate of perioperative complications, and confers the benefit of long-term survival after cardiac surgery in adults. Atrial fibrillation ablation also improved cardiac surgery patients' long-term survival compared with the matched general atrial fibrillation population.PMID:36216085 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.036

Preoperative Hematocrit Is a Powerful Predictor of Adverse Outcomes in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery: A Report From The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database.
CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative HCT is a powerful independent predictor of perioperative mortality as well as renal failure and deep sternal wound infection in patients undergoing isolated primary CABG operations. These findings should prompt investigation of strategies to increase preoperative HCT. PMID: 24055236 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Long-Term Survival After Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: A Swedish Nationwide Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term survival was similar between off-pump and on-pump CABG in patients undergoing non-emergent primary isolated CABG in Sweden from 1998 to 2008. Off-pump CABG was performed infrequently and there was a continuous decline in the number of procedures during the study period. PMID: 24075498 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Morbidity But Not Mortality Is Decreased After Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: Off-pump CABG was associated with less morbidity, shorter length of stay, and similar mortality compared with on-pump procedures, suggesting that it can be a safe and effective alternative to standard on-pump CABG. However, the limited use of off-pump CABG in this multicenter analysis may restrict the generalizability of these results, and realistically defines the limited degree of acceptance of this technique in a real-world environment. Ascending-to-Descending Aoritc Bypass: A Simple Solution to a Complex Problem.
CONCLUSIONS: The ascending-to-descending aortic bypass can be performed with low morbidity and mortality. It is an effective solution to complex aortic coarctation and represents a safe single-stage approach for patients with concomitant cardiac pathology. Optimal Conduit for Diabetic Patients: Propensity Analysis of Radial and Right Internal Thoracic Arteries.
CONCLUSIONS: In diabetic patients undergoing multivessel revascularization with either RA or RITA grafts to the circumflex coronary, long-term survival is similar. However, RA patients experienced significantly fewer respiratory or sternal wound adverse events. The RA is the preferred conduit to extend to more diabetic patients the recognized survival benefit of a multiple arterial graft strategy. PMID: 24878172 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Robotic Total Arterial Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: Seven-Year Single-Center Experience and Long-Term Follow-Up of Graft Patency.
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic off-pump CABG using IMA grafts is a safe and effective procedure in selected patients. The long-term outcome and patency of IMA grafts are excellent. PMID: 26190391 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Ultrafiltration on Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery: The Michigan Experience.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients exposed to CUF had a higher adjusted risk of AKI. Clinical teams should consider lower volumes of CUF among patients with low creatinine clearance to minimize the risk of AKI. PMID: 26209495 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Contemporary Outcomes of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Among Patients With Insulin-Treated and Non-Insulin-Treated Diabetes.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with diabetes undergoing CABG have substantially increased risk of major adverse events. Patients with ITDM represent an especially high-risk group. PMID: 26319487 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Transcatheter or Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients With Prior Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with prior coronary artery bypass graft surgery and aortic stenosis, TAVR offers a significant morbidity advantage and a strong trend toward improved survival over SAVR at 1 year. PMID: 26433523 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcomes of Dialysis-Dependent Patients After Cardiac Operations in a Single-Center Experience of 483 Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with DD CRF undergoing cardiac operations have high perioperative and medium-term mortality, particularly in the presence of combined aortic and mitral valve pathologic conditions, active endocarditis, and poor left ventricular function. Bilateral Internal Thoracic Artery Grafts in Hemodialysis: A Single-Center Propensity Score Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: CABG using BITA grafts showed no advantages in midterm outcome among hemodialysis patients; however, there were no adverse effects on perioperative morbidity or death. For hemodialysis patients with limited available conduits, BITA may be an important option for multivessel revascularization. PMID: 28964409 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Coronary Revascularization with Single Versus Bilateral Mammary Arteries: Is It Time to Change?
CONCLUSIONS: In a large regional experience BIMA is associated with no upfront risk of adverse events and improved long-term survival compared to SIMA. Our results indicate that BIMA conduits should be considered more frequently during CABG due to their demonstrated survival advantage. PMID: 29550203 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
