Benchmarking Outcomes of Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients with Bicuspid Aortic Valves
CONCLUSIONS: In this nationally-representative study, 30-day mortality was similar but risk-adjusted 5-year mortality was significantly lower in bicuspid patients undergoing isolated SAVR compared to tricuspid patients, specifically low-risk and normal left ventricular ejection fraction patients. Long Term Outcomes and Anticoagulation in Mitral Valve Surgery - A Report from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Database
CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulation was used in less than half of mitral valve surgery. In MVrep patients, warfarin was associated with increased bleeding and was not protective against either stroke or mortality. In BMVR patients, warfarin was associated with a modest survival benefit, increased bleeding and equivalent stroke risk. Transcatheter vs Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Pure Native Aortic Regurgitation
CONCLUSIONS: In Medicare patients with pure native AR, TAVR with the current commercially available transcatheter valves has comparable short-term outcomes. Aortic Annular Enlargement in the Elderly: Short and Long-Term Outcomes in the United States.
CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest annular enlargement during SAVR is associated with increased short-term risk in a Medicare population. Survival curves crossed after three years, which may portend a benefit in select patients. However, annular enlargement is still only done in the minority of patients who are at risk for PPM. CONCLUSIONS: With the evolution of MCS, patient phenotype and outcomes are also changing over time. CF LVAD support is increasingly being used in the less ill patient phenotype and more patients are supported for destination therapy. Mean survival is now approaching 5 years, but adverse events, especially neurologic events, continue to have a detrimental impact on the success of CF LVAD support. Impact of Complications on Resource Utilization during 90-day CABG Bundle for Medicare Beneficiaries.
CONCLUSIONS: Medicare beneficiaries that experience adverse events during their index CABG hospitalization will significantly impact that hospital's financial risk. The challenge under the voluntary CABG bundled payment program will be to monitor and reduce adverse events and managing the services consumed by Medicare beneficiaries experiencing adverse events delivered at all the venues of care. Transapical and Transaortic Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in the United States.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients undergoing TAo TAVR are older, more likely female, and have significantly higher STS predicted risk of mortality scores than patients operated on by TA access.
