Impact of perioperative acute ischemic stroke on the outcomes of noncardiac and nonvascular surgery: a single centre prospective study.
CONCLUSION: Age and preoperative history of stroke were strong risk factors for PAIS in patients undergoing NCS. Patients with PAIS carry an elevated risk of perioperative morbidity and mortality. PMID: 24869617 [PubMed - in process]

Patient and observer scar assessment scores favour the late appearance of a transverse cervical incision over a vertical incision in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy for stroke risk reduction.
CONCLUSION: Carotid endarterectomy performed through a transverse skin incision compared with a vertically oriented skin incision is associated with improved esthetic outcome, as measured by the POSAS, without an observed statistically significant difference in the risk of perioperative stroke or death between the 2 techniques. Mechanical versus bioprosthetic valves in chronic dialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Mechanical valves were associated with reduced mortality, but increased rate of bleeding and stroke. Given very low certainty for evidence of mortality and stroke outcomes, patients and clinicians may choose prosthetic valves based on factors such as bleeding risk and valve longevity.STUDY REGISTRATION: PROSPERO no. Management of blunt cerebrovascular injuries at a Canadian level 1 trauma centre: Are we meeting the grade?
CONCLUSION: Antithrombotic therapy was initiated in the majority of eligible patients with BCVIs, but completion of follow-up imaging and documentation of clear outpatient care plans were suboptimal. This finding shows the need for routine multidisciplinary management to facilitate standardization of care for this complex population.PMID:35504662 | DOI:10.1503/cjs.024920
