Stroke Due to Air Embolism Related to Laser Ablation of Accessory Vein (P4.357)
Conclusions: Air embolism leading to devastating stroke may occur few hours after laser treatment of varicose veins. Chest symptoms associated with the procedure should raise the possibility of air embolism. Immediate therapeutic measures like 100[percnt] oxygen, hyperbaric oxygen chamber and/or hypothermia should be considered to prevent neurologic complications.Disclosure: Dr. Kale has nothing to disclose. Variability in Approach to Treatment of Acute Central Retinal Artery Occlusion in US Teaching Hospitals (I6.003)

An Unusual Cause of Altered Mental Status: Recurrent Cerebral Air Embolism from Atrial-Esophageal Fistula (P2.119)
Conclusion:The incidence of stroke secondary to air emboli is rare but a known complication of AEF's. Review of literature showed no reports of recurrent air embolism following successful treatment with HBO and repair of AEF. Early Clinical Improvement in Central Retinal Artery Occlusion is Associated with Central Retinal Artery Recanalization (P4.262)
Conclusions:In our case series, no patient without early recanalization of the CRA had ECI. Further studies are merited to determine the impact of CRA recanalization timing and, furthermore, whether fibrinolytic therapy is associated with improved CRA recanalization rates and long-term visual acuity in CRAO patients.Disclosure: Dr. Alkuwaiti has nothing to disclose.
