Life‐threatening coronary disease is prevalent in patients with stenosing carotid artery disease
ConclusionsEndarterectomized carotid patients have a high risk of acute myocardial infarction and death, and need an intensified cardiovascular disease‐risk‐lowering treatment. Although asymptomatic, the evaluation of prognostically significant myocardial ischemia should be considered in these high‐risk patients. Eventually, a clinical trial is needed to address whether carotid patients would benefit from early intervention.

Statin use in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage: a systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsAlthough careful interpretation is necessary due to several study limitations, we have demonstrated that statin use in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage is likely associated with improved mortality and functional outcomes.

Statins and subarachnoid hemorrhage in Medicare patients with unruptured cerebral aneurysms
ConclusionsStatin use by patients with unruptured cerebral aneurysms was not associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage risk. Given the prior animal experimental studies demonstrating a protective effect, further prospective studies are needed to investigate the potential relationship.

Statin therapy and the risk of intracerebral haemorrhage: a nationwide observational study
ConclusionsIn this matched case‐controlled study, statin therapy was associated with a decreased risk of incident intracerebral haemorrhage. Future studies on risk of stroke with statin therapy after intracerebral haemorrhage are needed.

Combination of intracerebral haemorrhage and familial hypercholesterolemia in the acute hospital setting – a challenge for statin treatment?
It is estimated that worldwide, around 35 million people have familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). Thus, patients affected by the combination of FH and acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are not exceptional and neurologists should be prepared to encounter them. Despite a recent finding of beneficial association between statin use during hospitalization and improved outcomes, the increased risk of recurrent ICH in the long term may make clinicians avoid statins in patients with a history of ICH. Differences in lipid profiles in two Hispanic ischemic stroke populations
ConclusionWe found significant differences in lipid fractions in Hispanic ischemic stroke patients, with lower total cholesterol and low‐density lipoprotein, and higher triglyceride levels in Mexicans. These findings highlight the heterogeneity of dyslipidemia among the Hispanic race‐ethnic group and may lead to different secondary prevention strategies.
