Musculoskeletal injury in an Australian professional ballet company, 2018-2021: 953 medical-attention and 706 time-loss injuries over 4 years
CONCLUSIONS: Almost all dancers required medical-attention for at least one injury during the surveillance period. Approximately 74% of injuries resulted in time-loss. BSI and ankle synovitis/impingement were of high burden and a high proportion of BSI were recurrent.PMID:37707788 | DOI:10.2519/jospt.2023.11858

An early care void: The injury experience and perceptions of treatment among knee-injured individuals and healthcare professionals - A qualitative interview study
CONCLUSION: Early care for knee-injured individuals is filled with worries and unmet emotional and information support needs. HCPs need more support and training to deliver timely and appropriate care.PMID:37696196 | DOI:10.1016/j.ptsp.2023.08.006

Serratus anterior fascia plane block for pain control in patients with multiple rib fractures
Conclusion] We report the cases of three patients who completed respiratory physiotherapy after receiving intermittent SAP blocks for the management of pain due to multiple rib fractures. SAP blocks are associated with a low risk of complications as the ribs are not punctured while performing SAP blocks.PMID:37670765 | PMC:PMC10475645 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.673

The Effect of Reactive Balance Training on Falls in Daily Life: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: RBT reduced the likelihood of falls in daily life for older adults and people with balance impairments. More adverse events were reported in RBT than control groups.IMPACT: Balance training that evokes balance reactions can reduce falls among people at increased risk of falls. Older adults and individuals with balance problems were less likely to fall in daily life after participating in RBT compared with traditional balance training.LAY SUMMARY: If you are an older adult and/or have balance problems, your physical therapist may prescribe reactive balance training rather than traditional balance training in ord...

Physical Therapy Combined with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy: Treatment Practice Considering the Effect of Reducing Upper Limb Spasticity on Gait
Phys Ther Res. 2023;26(2):44-49. doi: 10.1298/ptr.R0025. Epub 2023 May 30.ABSTRACTWe perform physical therapy combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in stroke patients with hemiplegia in the maintenance phase with the intent of improving the support of paralyzed leg. In gait evaluation in patients with hemiplegia, it is important to assess elements related to coordination carefully. rTMS therapy is effective in alleviating the tension of upper limbs. As rTMS helps upper-limb swing to become evident during gait, it makes trunk rotation necessary for left-right coordination appear more easily. As a...

Can language enhance physical therapists' willingness to follow Choosing Wisely recommendations? A best-worst scaling study
CONCLUSION: Physical therapists were more willing to follow recommendations that provided more detail, alternatives to low-value care, and were positively framed. These findings can inform the development of future Choosing Wisely recommendations and could help reduce low-value physical therapy.PMID:37597492 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2023.100534

What are the unsupervised exercise adherence rates in clinical trials for knee osteoarthritis? A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical trials for knee OA do not consistently collect or report adherence with unsupervised exercise programs. Slightly more than half of the studies reported collecting adherence data while only 40.9% reported findings with substantial heterogeneity in tracking methodology. The clinical relevance of these programs cannot be properly contextualized without this information.PMID:37597491 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2023.100533

Patient-reported Outcomes and Muscle Strength after a Physiotherapy-led Exercise and Support Brace Intervention in Patients with Acute Injury of the Posterior Cruciate Ligament: A Two-year Follow-up Study
CONCLUSIONS: The physiotherapy-led exercise and support brace intervention demonstrated clinically relevant improvements in patient-reported outcomes and knee flexion strength, and the risk of PCL surgical reconstruction was considered low within the first two years.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3b©The Author(s).PMID:37547839 | PMC:PMC10399121 | DOI:10.26603/001c.83214
