Balance and Gait After First Minor Ischemic Stroke in People 70 Years of Age or Younger: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study.

Use of the Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care "6 Clicks" Basic Mobility Inpatient Short Form and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale to Predict Hospital Discharge Disposition After Stroke.
CONCLUSION: The 6 Clicks mobility score alone can guide discharge decision making after stroke, particularly for discharge to home versus an SNF or an IRF. Determining discharge to an SNF versus an IRF could be improved by also considering the NIHSS score, age, sex, and race. Future studies should seek to identify which additional characteristics improve predictability for these separate discharge destinations. Prevalence of Walking Limitation after Acute Stroke and its Impact on Discharge to Home
CONCLUSION: Approximately half of patients with first-ever stroke present with lower extremity weakness and walking limitation. Early walking ability is a significant predictor of returning home after acute hospitalization, independent of stroke severity. Gluteus Maximus Muscle Activation Characteristics During a Chair-Rise in Adults With Chronic Stroke

Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviors in Community-Dwelling Stroke Survivors: A Systematic Review.
CONCLUSIONS: Little is known about the time stroke survivors spend sedentary each day, or the pattern in which sedentary time is accumulated. Studies using objective, reliable and valid measures of sedentary time are needed to further investigate the impacts of sedentary time on the health of stroke survivors. Postural Alignment Is Altered in People With Chronic Stroke and Related to Motor and Functional Performance.

Transitions in the Embodied Experience After Stroke: A Grounded Theory Study.
CONCLUSION: The bodily experience of stroke is intimately connected with a person's sense of self. A person's social and physical environment, as well as their personal attributes can serve to 'anchor' them more comfortably within their embodied experience of stroke. Theory that acknowledges the integral connection between body and self could enhance physiotherapy practice. This study supports the need for physiotherapists to be adequately informed to integrate the embodied experience in their practice when working with people after stroke. Aerobic Exercise Recommendations to Optimize Best Practices in Care After Stroke: AEROBICS 2019 Update.
The objective of this project was to update AEROBICS 2013 using the highest quality of evidence currently available. The first step was to conduct a comprehensive review of literature from 2012-2018 related to aerobic exercise poststroke. Early Rehabilitation in Acute Care Inpatient Wards May Be Crucial to Functional Recovery 3  Months After Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: ΔBI in acute care inpatient wards may be an important predictor of the BI at 3 months. Therapy density and change in PASS were significantly associated with ΔBI. IMPACT: Survivors of acute stroke who receive up to 2 rehabilitation sessions per day for 5 d/wk early in their hospitalization have better functional recovery at 3 months after stroke. Measurement Precision and Efficiency of Computerized Adaptive Testing for the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale in People With Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: An ABC CAT can determine accurate and precise measures of balance confidence in people with stroke with as few as 4 items. Individuals with lower balance confidence may require a greater number of items (up to 9) and attributed to the LEAPS trial excluding more functionally impaired persons. IMPACT STATEMENT: Computerized adaptive testing can drastically reduce the ABC's test administration time while maintaining accuracy and precision. Time Window for Ischemic Stroke First Mobilization Effectiveness (TIME): Protocol for an Investigator-Initiated Prospective Multicenter Randomized 3-Arm Clinical Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The TIME trial is designed to answer the question "when is the best time to start mobilization after stroke?" The effect of timing is isolated from the effect of type and dose of mobilization by otherwise applying a standard mobilization protocol across groups. The TIME trial may, therefore, contribute to increasing the knowledge base regarding the optimal time window for initiating mobilization after acute ischemic stroke. Motor Skill Learning Is Associated With Diffusion Characteristics of White Matter in Individuals With Chronic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS:: Diffusion characteristics of posttraining ipsilesional PLIC were linked to the magnitude of change in skilled motor behavior. These results imply that the microstructural properties of regional white matter indexed by diffusion behavior may be an important factor to consider when determining potential response to rehabilitation in persons with stroke.
