Risk of death and stroke associated with anticoagulation therapy after mitral valve repair
Conclusion VKA treatment after mitral valve repair is associated with a markedly lower risk of adverse events as stroke or death without excess major bleeding risk during the first 3 months following surgery.

Preserved stroke volume late after tetralogy repair, despite severe right ventricular dilatation

As stated in our study2, we did not find a significant difference in left ventricular (LV) volumes or function in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) either above or below an indexed right ventricular (RV) end-diastolic volume of 150 mL/m2. We observed that as the RV became more dilated, the progressive increase in RV stroke volume was associated with lower RV ejection fraction in the more dilated group but was largely explained by increased indexed RV end-systolic volume....

Elective ascending aortic aneurysm repair outcomes in a nationwide US cohort
Conclusions The overall rate of in-hospital death, stroke and MI is nearly 5% in patients undergoing elective ascending aortic aneurysm repair. Among several predictors, chronic weight loss is associated with the largest increase in the risk of poor outcomes. Higher hospital volume is associated with a lower in-hospital mortality, highlighting the importance to refer patients to high-volume centres while discussing the risks and benefits of proceeding with repair.

The unnatural history of an atrial septal defect: Longitudinal 35 year follow up after surgical closure at young age
Conclusions Very long-term outcome after surgical ASD closure in childhood shows good survival and low morbidity. Early surgical closure prevents pulmonary hypertension and reduces the occurrence of supraventricular arrhythmias. Early postoperative arrhythmias are predictive for the need for pacemaker implantation during early follow-up, but the rate of late pacemaker implantation remains low. Although RVEF was unexpectedly found to be decreased in one-third of patients, the functional status remains excellent.

Hypertensive response to exercise in adult patients with repaired aortic coarctation
Conclusions A hypertensive response to exercise was present in nearly half of the patients in this large, prospective cohort of adults with repaired CoA. Risk factors for increased peak exercise SBP were male sex, absence of a bicuspid aortic valve and elevated resting SBP. Increased peak exercise SBP independently predicted hypertension at follow-up. These results support close follow-up of patients with a hypertensive response to exercise to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment of future hypertension.

Subannular repair in secondary mitral regurgitation with restricted leaflet motion during systole
Conclusions Our study demonstrates the safety and feasibility of standardised subannular repair to treat ventricular SMR (Carpentier type IIIb) in a multicentre setting. By addressing mitral leaflet tethering, papillary muscle relocation results in very satisfactory 1-year outcomes and has the potential to durably restore MV geometry; nevertheless, long-term FU is mandatory.
