A Comparative Analysis of Stroke in Haitian and Non-Haitian Populations of South Florida (P1.259)
Conclusions: Multiple factors may play a role in these significant differences, including healthcare disparities and differences in socioeconomic status. Policies aimed at improving access to healthcare, patient education, and health care provider cultural/language comprehension should benefit Haitian stroke patient outcomes. Using a Knowledge-Based Survey on Urban, Minority Hypertensive Patients to Develop a Patient-Focused Stroke Risk Educational Video (P2.383)
Conclusions: Our animated video presented hypertension and stroke education based on patient knowledge assessments. Expert evaluation by SAC provided validity of the video’s educational content and design. Development of a tailored educational video allows for future investigation of the effects of tailored hypertension and stroke education on medically underserved, minority communities and high risk populations. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ogvmez5yxq0wqjz/The[percnt]20Pressure[percnt]20is[percnt]20Up[percnt]20-[percnt]20Video[percnt]20v2.mp4?dl=0Disclosure: Dr. Kwan has nothing to disclose. Trends in Alteplase Utilization in Louisianas Level III Hospitals (P4.272)
Conclusions:The treatment rate is increasing in Level III hospitals in Louisiana and is higher than the latest national Primary Stroke Center rate. Half of registered patients presented within 4.5hrs of LSN. Documentation of the reason for not getting alteplase improved. The disability associated with perceived minimal deficits is a target for enhanced education in determining eligibility for alteplase.Disclosure: Dr. Navalkele has nothing to disclose. A pilot study to examine the effects of a multimodal sensory stimulation protocol for unilateral spatial neglect rehab in subacute MCA stroke (P5.153)
Conclusions:This pilot study suggests that a multimodal simultaneous peripheral and central sensory stimulation technique targeting in subacute MCA stroke cases with neglect can improve their clinical outcomes. This needs to be replicated in future studies.Disclosure: Dr. Ayad has nothing to disclose. Dr. Emara has nothing to disclose. Dr. Zaki has nothing to disclose. Dr. Mohammed has nothing to disclose.

Show or No-Show - That Is the Question: Lack of Outpatient Follow-up a After Acute Stroke. (P2.131)
CONCLUSION: Poor follow up rates were seen overall. Medicare, Medicaid, and self-pay patients were least likely to follow up. Patients discharged to inpatient rehabilitation or nursing facilities had a low follow-up rate, as did those patients living at a geographic distance from our facilities. Better education of the importance of follow-up prior to discharge is needed.Disclosure: Dr. Chaudhary has nothing to disclose. Dr. Lee has nothing to disclose.

Less Than Ideal: Trends in Cardiovascular Health Metrics among US Stroke Survivors, NHANES 1988-2010 (S12.006)
CONCLUSIONS: Fewer than 1% of US stroke survivors display ideal cardiovascular health. Although BP and lipid control improved over the last 2 decades, rates of obesity, diabetes, and poor diet increased. Stroke survivors who are Black, socioeconomically disadvantaged, or relatively less educated, appear to be at significantly greater odds of having poor cardiovascular health, highlighting the need for targeted interventions. Management of Early Severe Hypertension in Acute Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Primary Stroke Centers vs. Non-Stroke Center Hospitals (P01.022)
CONCLUSIONS: Antihypertensives were initiated earlier for ICH at PSCs, however steroid utilization was no different. This suggests that routing stroke patients to PSCs may improve timeliness of antihypertensive therapy for ICH and greater education requiring avoidance of steroids is desirable even within PSCs.Disclosure: Dr. Flinders has nothing to disclose. The "Uncertainty Principle" as an Entry Criterion in Stroke Clinical Trials: Bias Towards Null Findings (P2.382)
Conclusions: When investigators accurately judge which patients will benefit from therapy, using the uncertainty principle can substantially influence randomized trials toward null findings for treatments that are actually beneficial. This bias should be considered when interpreting stroke trial results.Disclosure: Dr. Vyas has nothing to disclose.
