Teaching NeuroImages: Bilateral hypertrophic olivary degeneration following posterior circulation stroke
A 40-year-old comatose man was brought to the hospital with a history of posterior circulation stroke 4 months earlier due to hypertension. On examination, he had spastic quadriplegia, bilateral extensor plantar reflex, and palatal myoclonus. MRI revealed enlarged olives (figure 1) and chronic infarcts involving midbrain and pons (figure 2) suggestive of hypertrophic olivary degeneration seen after 4 months of insult. Assessment of Stroke Knowledge and Attitudes among Riyadh Medical Students: A Cross-sectional Study (P2.303)
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated average medical students’ knowledge of stroke and identified knowledge gaps in different domains of basic stroke knowledge. Stroke education modules should be incorporated into the preclinical curriculum and neurology or stroke clerkships should be mandatory for all students. Hypertension is the most Risk Factor Stroke in Indonesia Stroke Registry (P3.263)
Conclusions:Hypertension was the most risk factor in this study. Riskesdas (Basic Health Research) survey 2013 found that 25.8% of Indonesia’s population suffered from hypertension. Self-perceived psychological stress and risk of all-cause mortality after stroke: the Mashhad Stroke Incidence Study (MSIS) (P4.306)

Assessment of Stroke Risk Factors in Southern Arizona (P02.054)
CONCLUSIONS: Despite a higher incidence of stroke, Hispanic concern regarding stroke risk factors is much lower than non-Hispanics. This suggests that knowledge linking risk factors for stroke and incident stroke may be lacking in Hispanic communities. Body Mass Index and Stroke Subtype in a Young Adult Stroke Population (I12-5D)
CONCLUSIONS: In our group of young adult stroke patients, we found the highest BMI in the group with intracranial atherosclerosis. Although this group represented a small number of patients, this young adult population is at increased risk for future strokes. Temporal and Racial Trends in Post-Stroke Dementia in the "Stroke Buckle" of the United States (P1.099)
