Trends in consultations and prescribing for rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases: an electronic primary care records study
CONCLUSION: Pandemic-associated restrictions led to fewer primary care consultations and relative increases in analgesic prescribing, including strong opioids, for RMDs in the UK. Policymakers must consider the impact of these changes in future healthcare resource planning.PMID:37722859 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2022.0648

Exploring the delivery of remote physiotherapy during the COVID-19 pandemic: UK wide service evaluation
CONCLUSION: Remote physiotherapy was safe, feasible, and acceptable for those who accessed it. There were patients for which it was deemed unsuitable across clinical areas. In practice, it should be combined with in-person consultation based on patients' needs/preferences. Further research should explore post-pandemic maintenance of remote delivery.PMID:37610255 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2247069

Current Practices in and Barriers to Physiotherapists' Use of Resistance Exercise with Older Adults in Acute Care
Conclusions: Addressing treatment priorities, patient motivation, and staffing resources can support physiotherapists in increasing REx use, an important strategy for reducing the incidence of hospital-associated deconditioning among older adults in acute care settings.PMID:37324605 | PMC:PMC10262725 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2020-0123

Strategies to Increase Access to Outpatient Physiotherapy Services: A Scoping Review
Conclusions: Studies evaluating interventions and health system changes to improve access to physiotherapy services have been limited in focus, and most have neglected to address inequities in access. To improve equitable access to physiotherapy services in Canada, physiotherapy providers in local settings can implement and evaluate transferable patient-centred access strategies, particularly telerehabilitation and primary care integration.PMID:37323714 | PMC:PMC10262743 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2020-0119
