Impact of COVID-19 on the Volume of Acute Stroke Admissions: A Nationwide Survey in Japan
In conclusion, the acute stroke admission volume declined by 2.51% in 2020 relative to 2019 in Japan, especially during the months of high infection, and in highly infected prefectures. Overwhelmed healthcare systems and infection control practices may have been associated with the decline in the stroke admission volume during the COVID-19 pandemic.PMID:35753763 | DOI:10.2176/jns-nmc.2022-0099

The effects of rehabilitation therapy duration on functional recovery of persons with subacute stroke stratified by individual's age: a retrospective multicenter study
CONCLUSIONS: For persons with subacute stroke in rehabilitation hospitals, a higher duration of daily rehabilitation therapy was associated with better functional recovery in the 70-79 years group and ≥80 years groups. Understanding the responsiveness of persons with stroke to rehabilitation therapy by age group helps to better allocate medical resources and develop more effective approaches.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: An increased duration of daily rehabilitation therapy may be helpful in older adults with stroke selected for intensive rehabilitation for improvement of basic daily functioning.PMID:36052892 | DOI:10....

Impact of areal socioeconomic status on prehospital delay of acute ischaemic stroke: retrospective cohort study from a prefecture-wide survey in Japan
Conclusions Living in socioeconomically disadvantaged municipalities was associated with prehospital delays of acute ischaemic stroke in non-capital areas in Kochi prefecture, Japan. Poorer outcomes of those patients may be caused by delayed treatment of intravenous rt-PA and endovascular reperfusion therapy. Further studies are necessary to determine social risk factors in the capital areas.
