Comparison of glycemic control between continuous regular insulin infusion and single-dose subcutaneous insulin glargine injection in medical critically ill patients
Conclusions: Single-dose subcutaneous insulin glargine injection was feasibly applied for glycemic control in medical critically ill patients. The glycemic control in the critically ill patients by a single dose of subcutaneous insulin glargine was comparable to standard intravenous regular insulin infusion. A conversion dose of 100% of the daily requirement of regular insulin is suggested.

Pressure ulcer and nutrition
Seied Hadi Saghaleini, Kasra Dehghan, Kamran Shadvar, Sarvin Sanaie, Ata Mahmoodpoor, Zohreh OstadiIndian Journal of Critical Care Medicine 2018 22(4):283-289Pressure ulcers can diminish global life quality, contribute to rapid mortality in some patients and pose a significant cost to health-care organizations. Accordingly, their prevention and management are highly important. Nutritional deprivation and insufficient dietary intake are the key risk factors for the development of pressure ulcers and impaired wound healing. Unplanned weight loss is a major risk factor for malnutrition and pressure ulcer development. Suboptim...

Levels and diagnostic value of model-based insulin sensitivity in sepsis: A preliminary study
Conclusions: Model-based SI ruled in and ruled out sepsis with fairly high sensitivity and specificity in our critically ill nondiabetic patients. These findings can be used as a foundation for further, prospective investigation in this area.

A comparative study of midazolam and target-controlled propofol infusion in the treatment of refractory status epilepticus
Conclusions: The choice of anesthetic agent does not seem to affect the overall outcome in RSE and SRSE. Target-controlled propofol infusion was found to be equal in its efficacy to midazolam for the treatment of RSE. High mortality might be due to SRSE secondary to the underlying brain pathology.

A questionnaire-based survey of physician perceptions of the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and their antibiotic prescribing patterns
Conclusion: This study reveals that the prevalence of MDR Gram-negative pathogens is perceived to be on the rise. Prescription patterns indicate high levels of variability. Hence, antibiotic stewardship is essential to standardize antibiotic prescriptions not only for efficacy but also to reduce the burden of multiple drug resistance.

CD14 & #43; monocytic cytokines: Impact on outcome in severely injured patients
Conclusion: After trauma, an immediate hyperactivation of circulating monocytes is rapidly followed by a substantial paralysis of cell function. Decreased activity of monocytes can be used to identify potential fatal immunological disruption. Since immunological disruption occurs before clinical symptoms; our study proposes an immunological prognostication score for trauma victims.
