Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Aug 31:S0294-1260(23)00086-9. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.07.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRené Sève recalls that Contemporary Law in the Western World is based on autonomy of equal subjects, mutually recognizing the right to each carry out their own life project. The LGBTQIA+ person therefore exercises their ability to be their own species, according to Kirkegaard's word. It remains that "life project" also implies a constraint of stability and rationality. The author then shows, using Canadian and French statistical data, the difficulties of achieving this ideal for minors and, for adult...

Thoracic reassignment surgeries
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Aug 16:S0294-1260(23)00082-1. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.07.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThoracic reassignment surgeries are the most common gender reassignment surgeries. They represent the first and sometimes the only step in the reassignment process for transgender patients. Ensuring Racial and Ethnic Inclusivity in Facial Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation
CONCLUSION: Our analysis showed that the ethnic and racial distribution of fVCA has not proportionally reflected the racial and ethnic demographics of the general US population, underscoring the risk of such healthcare imbalances. Although large-scale studies are needed before drawing definitive conclusions, leaders in the field should take preventive steps to avoid potential disparities. Further investigations into the factors that facilitate or prohibit access to fVCA referral and surgery will be necessary moving forward.PMID:37577247 | PMC:PMC10419650 | DOI:10.1097/GOX.0000000000005178

Perceptions of bariatric surgery in patients with type 2 diabetes: data from a self-administered questionnaire
CONCLUSION: Bariatric surgery for T2D is rarely addressed in routine medical visits. Fear of operative risks and irreversibility of the procedure largely explains the reluctance to BS. Information and education campaigns on the benefit of metabolic surgery for patients with T2D remain necessary.PMID:37573156 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.06.012
