Effectiveness of cerebellar vermis intermittent theta-burst stimulation in improving trunk control and balance function for patients with subacute stroke: a randomised controlled trial protocol
This study will be a prospective single-centre double-blind randomised controlled clinical trial with a 3-week intervention and 3-week follow-up. Eligible participants will be randomly allocated to the experimental group or the control group in a 1:1 ratio. After routine conventional physical therapy, patients in the experimental group will receive cerebellar vermis iTBS, whereas patients in the control group will receive sham stimulation. The overall intervention period will be 5 days a week for 3 consecutive weeks. The outcomes will be measured at baseline (T0), 3 weeks postintervention (T1) and at the 3-week follow-up (...

Prevalence and distribution of lacunar stroke in China: a cross-sectional study using self-reported survey data
Conclusions
In this study, the prevalence and distribution of lacunar stroke were reported at population level across China. Special attention and prevention should be given to the age, sex and geographical groups that are vulnerable to lacunar stroke.

Combined robot motor assistance with neural circuit-based virtual reality (NeuCir-VR) lower extremity rehabilitation training in patients after stroke: a study protocol for a single-centre randomised controlled trial
Introduction
Improving lower extremity motor function is the focus and difficulty of post-stroke rehabilitation treatment. More recently, robot-assisted and virtual reality (VR) training are commonly used in post-stroke rehabilitation and are considered feasible treatment methods. Here, we developed a rehabilitation system combining robot motor assistance with neural circuit-based VR (NeuCir-VR) rehabilitation programme involving procedural lower extremity rehabilitation with reward mechanisms, from muscle strength training, posture control and balance training to simple and complex ground walking training. The study aims ...

Work situation of patients with stroke who have returned to work: a scoping review protocol
This study will be based on the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ Manual for scoping reviews. A systematic literature search will be conducted using related medical subject headings and keywords on the work situation of patients with stroke who have returned to work. Relevant publications will be searched using 17 data sources, including grey literature sources, published in English or Chinese between 1957 and 2022. None of the articles will have restrictions on the data sources or study designs. The study selection and search results will be reported and presented according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Syst...

Distribution of risk factors differs from coronary heart disease and stroke in China: a national population survey
Conclusions
The distribution of risk factors for CHD and stroke were substantial differences. More specific prevention and control measures should be formulated according to the distribution differences of risk factors related to CVD.

Prevalence of stroke and associated risk factors: a population-based cross-sectional study from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China
Conclusions
The prevalence of stroke, the related risk factors and the detection rate of high-risk individuals were clarified. The prevalence rates of hypertension, overweight or obesity and diabetes in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were all higher than the Chinese average. Higher-altitude exposure may be an independent risk factor for stroke.

Chronic non-communicable diseases: Hainan prospective cohort study
Purpose
The Hainan Cohort was established to investigate the incidence, morbidity and mortality of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors in the community population.
Participants
The baseline investigation of the Hainan Cohort study was initiated in five main areas of Hainan, China, from June 2018 to October 2020. A multistage cluster random-sampling method was used to obtain samples from the general population. Baseline assessments included a questionnaire survey, physical examination, blood and urine sample collection, and laboratory measurements, and outdoor environmental data were obtained.
Findings to dat...

New device multisegment Mechanical Thrombectomy System for endovascular treatment in acute ischaemic stroke: study protocol for a prospective, multicentre, randomised controlled trial
Introduction
Endovascular treatment is the standard of care for acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) in the anterior circulation. However, successful complete recanalisation is considerably difficult when the vessels are severely tortuous. At the bend, the stent retriever can distort, collapse and lose its ability to capture the clot due to structural change. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the new thrombectomy device multisegment Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) System for endovascular treatment of acute ischaemic stroke (AIS).
Methods and analysis
The present study is a prospective, mult...

Benefit finding in first-ever young and middle-aged patients who had a stroke and their spousal caregivers in China: a longitudinal mixed-methods study protocol
This study is a longitudinal mixed-methods, multicentre study. A total of 142 patients who had a stroke and 142 spousal caregivers will be investigated. Participants will be recruited from four large public hospitals in northern China. Quantitative and qualitative data will be collected at five time points (near discharge and 1, 3, 6 and 12 months following discharge). Validated and reliable questionnaires will be used in quantitative studies. Information on sociodemographic data, BF, functional status, perceived stress, coping styles and mutuality will be collected from the dyads. Qualitative data will be collected via se...

Efficacy and safety of human-derived neural stem cell in patients with ischaemic stroke: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
Introduction
Stroke is the most common cause of neurological disability in adults worldwide. Neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation has shown promising results as a treatment for stroke in animal experiments. The pilot investigation of stem cells in stroke phase 1 and phase 2 trials showed that transplantation of the highest dose (20 million cells) was well tolerated. Preliminary clinical benefits have also been observed. However, the trials were open-label and had a small sample size. Furthermore, human NSCs (hNSCs) were intracerebrally implanted, and some serious adverse events were considered to be related to the surgic...

Prevalence and associated factors of anxiety among the population in an urban area of China: a cross-sectional study
Conclusions
Our findings showed an alarmingly high prevalence of anxiety in the population living in an urban area of China. Sleep time <6 hours and waking up suffocating had a significant association with anxiety. These findings suggest that future anxiety prevention programmes in urban areas should incorporate interventions targeted at these factors, such as improving residents’ sleep quality.

Stroke prevention of thoracoscopic left atrial appendage clipping in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation at high risk of stroke and bleeding: study protocol for a non-randomised controlled clinical trial
Introduction
Non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) is a high-risk factor for ischaemic stroke. The 2016 European Society of Cardiology Atrial Fibrillation Management guidelines recommend oral anticoagulants (OACs) to prevent stroke in men with CHA2DS2-VASc scores ≥2 and women ≥3. However, in patients with a high risk of stroke and a high risk of bleeding (HAS-BLED (Hypertension, Abnormal renal/liver function, Stroke, Bleeding history or predisposition, Labile international normalized ratio, Elderly (> 65 years), Drugs/alcohol concomitantly) score≥3), OAC had a higher risk of bleeding. Left atrial appendage cl...

Association between recovery/occurrence of metabolic syndrome and rapid estimated glomerular filtration rate decline in middle-aged and older populations: evidence from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study
Conclusions
Over the 4-year follow-up period, we found that MetS recovery was associated with a reduced risk of rapid eGFR decline in middle-aged and older adults, while MetS occurrence was not related to rapid eGFR decline. Recovery from MetS appeared to protect against a rapid decline in eGFR.
