'Real-time' burden of community and healthcare-related infections in medical and rehabilitation patients in a public hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the ongoing high burden of infections contributing to hospitalisation of adult patients in a developed country. Assessment and modelling of general practice and community setting capacity for medical trainees in northern New Zealand.
CONCLUSIONS: A number of strategies are presented aimed at increasing short-term undergraduate teaching practice capacity in New Zealand, but also relevant to Australia and elsewhere. Teaching quality improvement to medical students: over a decade of experience.
CONCLUSIONS: Performing a hands-on project within the constraints and context of a busy women's health service is a feasible and effective method of teaching QI. Medical schools have an integral role to play in ensuring future healthcare professionals are equipped with QI knowledge, skills and attitudes. Considering evidence for ethnicity bias using assessment case scenarios and medical student correctness and certainty.
CONCLUSIONS: No systematic differences in correctness or certainty of student responses to case scenarios by patient ethnicity were detected. Further exploration is warranted, including incorporating more ethnicity descriptors, analysis of incorrect answers, analyses for patterns responses over time by individual students, and selecting questions where varying patient ethnicity is expected to alter the correct response or difficulty.
