Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic test accuracy of host and HPV DNA methylation in cervical cancer screening and management
Introduction Human papillomavirus (HPV) is necessary but not sufficient for cervical cancer development. During cervical carcinogenesis, methylation levels increase across host and HPV DNA. DNA methylation has been proposed as a test to diagnose cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN); we present a protocol to evaluate the accuracy of methylation markers to detect high-grade CIN and cervical cancer. Methods and analysis We will search electronic databases (Medline, Embase and Cochrane Library), from inception, to identify studies examining DNA methylation as a diagnostic marker for CIN or cervical cancer, in a cervical s...

Mapping evidence on the acceptability of human papillomavirus self-sampling for cervical cancer screening among women in sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review
Conclusion Evidence shows that HPVSS is highly acceptable for cervical cancer screening in sub-Saharan Africa. Further research exploring the acceptability of HPVSS among women residing in rural areas is required, as well as studies to determine women’s preferences for HPVSS intervention including the preferred type of sampling devices. Knowledge on the acceptability and preferences for HPVSS is important in designing women-centred interventions that have the potential to increase screening coverage and participation in cervical cancer screening programmes.

Communication strategies to improve human papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation uptake among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion HPV vaccine communication is critical in ensuring that the community understands the importance of vaccination. The most effective communication strategies included those which educate the population about the HPV vaccine, facilitate decision-making on vaccine uptake and community ownership of the vaccination process immunisation. Human papillomavirus self-sampling for cervical cancer screening among women in sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Evidence shows that women in sub-Saharan Africa have high rates of cervical cancer (CC) mortality compared with women in high-income countries. Effective screening programmes have significantly reduced the burden of CC in high-income countries. Self-sampling for human papillomavirus testing (HPVSS) has been reported to increase the participation and engagement of women in CC screening. Before HPVSS can be introduced for CC screening there is a need to establish its acceptability among end-users to ensure the increase in CC screening rates. Here, we outline a protocol for a scoping review aimed at mapping liter...

Intervention studies to encourage vaccination using narrative: a systematic scoping review protocol
Introduction Vaccine hesitancy is a global problem, impeding uptake of vaccines against measles, mumps, and rubella and those against human papillomavirus and COVID-19. Effective communication strategy is needed to address vaccine hesitancy. To guide the development of research in the field and the development of effective strategies for vaccine communication, this scoping review aims to analyse studies of interventions using narrative to encourage vaccination. Methods and analysis We will search the following databases: MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES. We will identify additional literature by searching the re...

Prevalence and distribution of HPV infection and subtypes in oral squamous cell carcinoma in Africa: a systematic review protocol
We describe a protocol for a systematic review to synthesise the best current evidence to assess the disease burden in Africa. Electronic databases including EBSCOhost, MEDLINE, CINAHL, ACADEMIC SEARCH COMPLETE, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus, SciCENTRAL, Cochrane Library, International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews) and WorldCAT will be comprehensively searched for studies reporting on the defined outcomes, in Africa, published from 1985 (when HPV was first reported) to the latest current entries, with no language restriction. Supplemental handsearching of grey literature, conference abstract proceedin...

75: hpv infection in women: knowledge, attitudes and behaviors and the implications for libyan healthcare
Conclusion: From the literature review it has been found that there is a wide range of reported levels of knowledge about HPV internationally. This project demonstrated significant gaps in knowledge among many women worldwide about genital and HPV infection which varies according to ethnicity, socio-economic and other demographic characteristics Australian women in the literature seemed to be well informed about genital infection and HPV and this can possibly be attributed to the broad educational campaign about HPV connected to their vaccination campaign. Moreover, Dermatologists need robust to acquire new skills in const...

Prevalence of papillomavirus in Brazil: a systematic review protocol
Introduction Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a cause of premalignant and malignant cancer in the lower genital and digestive tracts. In Brazil, there have been no prevalence studies that included a nationwide sample, and the prevalence of HPV has not been determined in many regions. Methods We will search the EMBASE, LILACS, MEDLINE, Web of Science and SciELO databases and previously published review articles to identify original research articles assessing HPV prevalence of the perineal (cervical, penile and anal) and oral areas. No exclusion criteria related to language or publication date will apply. 2 reviewer...

Performance of p16INK4a ELISA as a primary cervical cancer screening test among a large cohort of HIV-infected women in western Kenya: a 2-year cross-sectional study
Conclusions p16INK4a ELISA did not perform well as a screening test for CIN2+ detection among HIV-infected women due to low specificity. Our study contributes to the ongoing search for a more specific alternative to HPV testing for CIN2+ detection.

Print and online newspaper coverage of the link between HPV and oral cancer in the UK: a mixed-methods study
Conclusions The link between HPV and oral cancer and the transmission of HPV via oral sex was regularly discussed, yet coverage often lacked detailed health information. This could increase awareness of the link between oral sex and HPV risk, but may also lead to public concern about oral sex as a sexual behaviour.
