Understanding Factors Associated with Uptake of Lung Cancer Screening among Individuals at High Risk
This study aimed to identify factors associated with the uptake of LCS in high-risk individuals. Data for this study were obtained from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (n=11,297). Multivariable logistic regression models were used. Individuals with no health insurance (OR: 0.33, 95% CI: 0.19-0.58), no primary health care provider (OR: 0.40, 95% CI: 0.25-0.64), no chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR: 0.37, 95% CI: 0.28- 0.49), and racial/ethnic minorities other than Black and Hispanic (OR: 0.49, 95% CI: 0.31-0.78) were less likely to participate in annual LCS. Low-dose computed tomography uptake varied ...

The Use of Preventive Health Care in Asian Americans: The Cross-level Interactions between Individual and Neighborhood Factors in the United States
This study adds to the growing literature on the effect of neighborhood-level factors on health care as sources of disparities. For health care policy, identifying individuals without health insurance coverage and living in a neighborhood with limited health care providers should be a priority to diminish disparities in access to care.PMID:37464520 | DOI:10.1353/hpu.2023.0052

The Integrated Care for Kids Model: Addressing Fragmented Care for Pediatric Medicaid Enrollees in Seven Communities
J Health Care Poor Underserved. 2023;34(1):503-509. doi: 10.1353/hpu.2023.0034.ABSTRACTChildren with complex health and behavioral health conditions face challenges accessing coordinated health and community-based services. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), social determinants of health, and care delivery silos can lead to negative long-term outcomes. This paper provides an update on the Integrated Care for Kids (InCK) model from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Innovation Center and discusses barriers and facilitators to program implementation in the seven communities. The three core InCK activiti...

State-Specific Medicaid/CHIP Eligibility Criteria and Their Impact on Health Care Access for Foreign-born Children Living in the United States
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of these policies on health care access.METHODS: Data from the National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) were used to assess associations between health care access outcomes and three categories of state health insurance eligibility: restrictive (only U.S. citizens plus immigrants who "qualified" after five-year waiting period), semi-restrictive (same as restrictive except no waiting period), and inclusive (all children).RESULTS: When compared with restrictive states, foreign-born children in inclusive states were significantly more likely to have current insurance,...

J Health Care Poor Underserved. 2023;34(1):112-131. doi: 10.1353/hpu.2023.0008.ABSTRACTUnderstanding how disparities are experienced by subpopulations within rural areas may inform efforts to mitigate persistent inequities in access to health care. Among 2,545 randomly sampled adults who completed a mailed survey in ten rural counties in Georgia as part of a health equity initiative, 50.8% of respondents were aged 35-64, 65.9% were women, 16.6% identified as Black, 36.0% worked full-time, and 39% had a high school degree or less. Significant disparities were observed in health care access, use and financial burden by age, ...
